I had SOOOOOOO much fun at #Polacon Bay Area this past week/end! Was fun seeing folks I've known only online to new friends and Polapals and learned some new techniques too. Here's a few snaps! I think the only person on here is @docpop
Sarah seldom showed the entire figure in her work, leaving the face often hidden or cropped out, to portray a sense of mystery and ethereality, often photographing the models from the back, as if they belonged to some transitory, transitional place or a fragment of a memory. In these compositions, she aimed for the women to convey both strength and fragility. Blurring, unusual cropping, scratches and distortions gave them an almost painterly aspect, often taken using Polaroid positive/negative film. -- Claire Amaya, The Piece Palette.
Instant cameras aren't designed for use at 40 below, and cannot be recommended for outdoor photography during the winter in Fairbanks.
Still, we gave it a go and managed to capture 3 images, documenting the feeling (for us) of the past couple of very cold weeks in the Alaskan Interior.
Okay the wind has picked up and in 2 hours the rain is scheduled to start. Excuse me... I mean the "atmospheric river." Like polar vortex, atmospheric river sounds so much more dramatic. It makes people sit up and pay attention.
Anyway, for 8 out of the next 9 days, San Francisco is supposed to have rain. A goodly amount.
(Note : all 96 photos of my recent Polaroid i-Type film batch have this greenish lack of color and lack of details. Plus, the transparent layer becomes sticky very quickly. It really looks like the production batches have quality differences.)
