The work features 132 spatially located LEDs, driven by 2x #Pimoroni Plasma Stick 2040W. They talk to a server, which supplies a function to set R,G,B each frame.
Is it the first demo to run on a tent? (probably not; the #demoscene folks are an inventive crowd 😄).
Enjoy!
When I was a volunteer with a software user group I got the nickname "hammer" for being blunt I suppose. Before that, in engineering high school, we got to make tools out of metal. My ball peen hammer is still in good shape, sometimes unscrewing along the Acme threads. #HandTools
@themagpi I'm early stage coding...
The server is written in #golang, and will receive RGB values (and more) from a web form.
The #pimoroni Plasma Stick 2040W is long-polling those values from the server.
I'm hoping it should all come together for @emf 🙂
Has anyone managed to use the #PiMoroni NVMe base board by directly loading OS on to the NVME drive? Or do I really have to do the dance of loading OS on SD card first? @geerlingguy@gadgetoid#RaspberryPi
Reclaimed my #pimoroni#galacticUnicorn that had been in a drawer for a while - and excited to find some example code that interfaced with a sensor which has been sitting in a drawer for even longer. Neat!
Long story short: I opened some windows 😄
Life goal: I'd like to get all my neglected Pi boards doing something useful on the network. Coordinated if possible.
The #blizzard outside makes this the perfect day to reorganize my giant #sticker collection! Hopefully these new accessories will help reduce the chaos in my #TrapperKeeper! 😅
Zoom in and let me know what stickers you recognize — I can see some #Masto friends in there already! 🔎 :mastodon: 💗
Am I right to struggle with #python programs on my #raspberrypi ? A lot of the things I have tried to set up lately have run me up against a wall with the "externally managed environment" error. I have OLED and e-ink displays I want to use, but most documentation doesn't seem to reflect how to actually install their software without running into this error. Running with apt install python3-[packagename] sometimes works, but not often enough. It shouldn't be this difficult...
Turns out, the #python#virtualenvironment thing wasn't too bad to use. I was able to get the packages installed under an activated environment without issue. Actually getting my #inkyphat to work has proven problematic still. I have a suspicion that the example scripts were all written before the change to python. Anyone here able to get a #Pimoroni#inkyphat to successfully run its demo since the change?
A followup on my #inkyphat install on my #pizerow - Turns out, simply running the #Pimoroni install script inside a virtual environment was still not going to work. Thus far, I've managed to delete the /usr/lib/python3.11/EXTERNALLY-MANAGED file and the script proceeds. I even get the examples downloaded only to get the "NameError: name 'false' is not defined. Did you mean: 'False'?" error. Same as before.
I thought this hardware would be a nice out of the box solution to tinker with for a display. Sigh.
I've been listening to #RadioFreeFedi all day during #OliveHarvest, but couldn't use my phone's touchscreen while wearing gloves, so I thought it'd be a great day for field testing my #RFF display prototype, using a #Pimoroni Pico Inky Pack E-paper display for the #RaspberryPiPico.
It shows the currently playing track, lets me switch between main, comfy and specialty, and I can generate a QR code to take me straight to the artist profile or their music.
Ha. I don't know what to do with this.
I made a video, but the cheap capture card did horrible things to sound and it could be a while until I can fix that.
So:
I present "Peak Ambition", a first demo for #Picovision in #MicroPython for #Pimoroni Party #000, with the caveat that you shouldn't judge the hardware on the quality of this recording.
Also, extend that pass to me for all the snags I'd be fixing if there was more time 😄
But I'm still proud of it!
@Raspberry_Pi
I've turned a discontinued #Pimoroni Speaker Phat into a #MiniDexed Phat in order to give a new lease of life to a slightly damaged Raspberry Pi 2 that I recovered from ewaste
Nice review of the #Pimoroni#PicoVision by @biglesp over at Tom’s Hardware. (It’s a shame the Pimoroni folks don’t seem to have a Fediverse presence, unless I’ve missed it). PicoVision is a lot of fun, easy to get started coding for, but lots of capabilities that can be explored with more low-level code. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pimoroni-picovision
@codepope@Makeroni to be honest, you'd think the #pimoroni folks would want to load us up with toys to show off for them at the Pi 5 event next month... Makeroni > Pimoroni ☠️
I managed to integrate #pimoroni's #growhat into home assistant. Run the example web server then on home assistant I just parsed the data using the command_line integration with the settings:

Just spent a bit of time setting up lighting for the tent. Fortunately, like any prepared #maker, I happened to bring soldering iron, solder mat, trimmers, #pimoroni Plasma 2040 #rp2040, and a lot of LEDs along on the camping trip. /cc @Raspberry_Pi TODO: a nice case for the Plasma 2040; I did not bring a #3dprinter with me to this field in Hampshire!
