is among the bluist states but we would be among the first to fall in a civil/race war.

Why?

  1. Oregon was founded as a white supremacist territory.

  2. Most of the PD are members of the Proud Boys, who were bred here in the PNW.

  3. We saw weeks of street warfare in 2020 that wasn’t covered by the MSM because videographers like me were denied permits and beaten by off-duty cops.

  4. Our rural areas are heavily armed and brainwashed by rightwing radio.

2024 could get uglier.

For , here is a night mode and daytime photo of Fairy Falls along the Wahkeena Falls Trail. I took these photos on Saturday morning while hiking in the Columbia River Gorge. I love how the water looks blue in the dark.

Normal photo of Fairy Falls along the Wahkeena Falls trail in the Columbia River Gorge. The waterfall is rushing at 9:59 a.m.. The water is white as it falls over many rocks. Moss surrounds the waterfall on the rocks.

Finally decided to check out the Mastodon world. Seems to have potential, but finding folks to follow in and is proving challenging. So a favor for the Mastodon world: if you know of journalists or interesting/influential/important people in or the surrounding area who are on here, drop a comment with their follow link.

Yum. Found some Morels under our Madrone trees. It’s that time of year. Normally we head to the nearby Cascades for wildcrafting and foraging. It’s great when some of our favorite shrooms pop up on our own property.

Looks like founder is trying to revise history - just like every other by covering up his investment in former Gubernatorial candidate - who campaigned on cutting services to the most vulnerable in our state!

This will never forget, Phil! Go Fvck yourself and your attempt to moneywash history!

Randomly noting: if you're in the US, in April of 2024, the US will have a solar eclipse pass over a bunch of states for the first time in 7 years, and for the last time in decades.

It is an indescribably wonderful experience to be in the zone of totality. This article kinda covers it:. If you're not sure if you've seen one, you haven't. It's the most bizarre thing where it feels like someone flips a light switch and turns off the sky. https://www.space.com/37791-go-see-the-solar-eclipse-in-person.html

Right, TV news SUX covering it, just a black dot in the sky. That's not really the event. it's the people.

This was nothing short of magical and one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
The power and energy we all experienced was quite moving.
Here's Michael Archangel's video of everyone's reaction during the moment of totality.

What a spectacular momentous occasion IF YOU WERE THERE, 🤣

Hutton’s vireos are easy to confuse with Ruby crowned kinglets, but when you can get a good peek at their schnoz, you’ll have a good idea which one it is. The feet can be a tougher field mark at times. This one spent quite a bit of time in the red-flowering currant blossoms.

Google’s water use is soaring in The Dalles, records show, with two more data centers to come

"Google’s data centers used 355 million gallons of The Dalles’ water last year, 29% of the city’s total water consumption. The Dalles, whose name is derived from a French term referencing water flowing through a narrow channel, has a population of about 16,000."

March 5: Someone named Scott for

Despite its sensationalist pulpy title and premise, Jack Arnold's adaptation of the novel is an existentialist treatise.

The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) plays with the understanding of what it means to be acknowledged as a human, and one's place in the world. The story is told through the eyes of the titular Shrinking Man – Scott Carey – who after being exposed to strange fog, finds himself increasingly lost in this world.

It's phenomenal and I can only recommend it.

March 8: a shot in for

For authenticity reasons, Clyde Bruckman and Buster Keaton's The General (1926) was – for the most part – filmed on location in Oregon. Set during the , it's a comedic retelling of a popular war memoir about the .

Sadly it was a box office , resulting in Keaton losing his independence and The General entering the as early as 1954. Luckily for us that means we too can enjoy the views of beautiful 1920s Oregon: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=YWm587wKKVw (note: this version has the appropriate piano score but appears to be a missing few minutes).

Usually I go out New Year's morning to a wetland and start my year bird list out right, but this year, between work and getting back to running, it'll be a slower start. My list starts with a quick park walk this morning:

  1. Canada Goose
  2. Mallard
  3. Downy Woodpecker
  4. Northern Flicker
  5. Black-capped Chickadee
  6. Bushtit
  7. Song Sparrow

ianrosewrites,

I wasn't looking for birds today, but that's not how any of this works. Right down the street, clear as day and posing to be counted, my first sapsucker of the year. Hi, bird. As you were.

  1. Red-breasted Sapsucker

ianrosewrites,

In addition to the plum flowers and tiny spood, today was a most auspicious bird day: my first vultures of 2023. No offense to the kinglet or the magnificent wood duck - all birds are good birds - but I'm a vulture fanboy. Vultures are the best.

  1. Wood Duck
  2. Turkey Vulture
  3. Golden-crowned Kinglet

ianrosewrites,

Spring is definitely here in terms of birds. The adorblers are arriving, along with other early migrants. The bonanza will be in May, but it's starting for sure.

  1. Chestnut-backed Chickadee
  2. Pacific Wren
  3. Wilson's Warbler
  4. Pacific-slope Flycatcher

ianrosewrites,

Warbler season is officially here. Had OC's and Wilson's (let's call them black-capped, ) in the yard this morning, chasing bugs around the flowering trees.

  1. Orange-crowned Warbler
  2. Golden-crowned Sparrow
