so after lots of struggling with the #ssh configuration @lkh and me managed to establish #usenet peering between his machine and mine, over #uucp

now we need to get someone to actually deliver news from the wider #usenet to us.

@lkh as I said, the idea is simple, getting it working isn't. there are a lot of small working parts that need to be configured right.
like the passwd file needs to have a tab between username and password, where everywhere else a space is enough.
and of course the documentation is spread over at least 20 year old files all over the net.
it's not like many people are enthusiastic about this particular technology (because lets face it, for is superior, for email it's )

This is a #lisp machine for network protocols. Initially in pursuit of a social forum focused on link sharing.
as #startups and free projects alike rush to implement some #IETF RFC adding only 'but on the web'. I aim to define a modular protocol server which can support an arbitrary number of network protocols as a network daemon. Our POC in this endeavour will be to build an #NNTP -like protocol daemon which gateways to #IPFS storage. The content held in this system can be consumed by arbitrary clients; a web application presenting #reddit -like services would be just one of many potential clients, although it is likely that Gnus for Emacs will be the first one.

#reddit doesn't let me log in using my #Firefox:

"An error occurred. Please disable any extensions or try using a different web browser to continue."

Anybody else affected? Could not find anything with that error message so far. 🤷

A decent reminder by myself for https://karl-voit.at/2020/10/23/avoid-web-forums/

@pedro is using a rather old (but very cool) protocol:

It had its high time approx. 90s to mid 00s. I very much enjoyed it.

It ticks all the boxes when it comes to and freedom of interface: a number of web-based services, CLI tools like (mine), and other GUI-tools.

I hope it'll get popular again so that people who care could forget all web-based including :
