@publicvoit I'd try the hotspot just to be sure. Your IP may have been marked up for whatever reason. And maybe change the browser agent string? Just troubleshooting ideas. Hope you figure out the cause 🤞

@publicvoit the internet enshitification. Reddit made it so big that people seem to not have any alternative in sight (like main social media). The cost of transition is so high that make it even harder to do.

By this, Reddit just decide whatever they want to that people will still be on it.

I think another migration to Lemmy shall happen so people are not locked to a single platform.

@pedro Lemmy is better but doesn't offer me as much openness as I would hope for an alternative.

IMHO, the Usenet is still much superior even to lemmy. I might as well ignore all web forums including lemmy in future and try to find free Usenet servers and groups related to my interests.

@publicvoit yup, that’s the thing. Use something that do not jail you to the platform. Lemmy was just an example of free-er platform.

@pedro #Usenet is using a rather old (but very cool) protocol: #NNTP

It had its high time approx. 90s to mid 00s. I very much enjoyed it.

It ticks all the boxes when it comes to #federation and freedom of interface: a number of web-based services, CLI tools like #slrn (mine), #Thunderbird and other GUI-tools.

@ademir_lemmy_br @pedro I can follow your rationale but I guess that won't be possible.

Maybe lemmy + AP will develop into something as good as the Usenet but so far I don't see it yet.

I'll re-evaluate in a couple of years when the core of lemmy seemed to be stable and a number of alternative clients with at least half of the advanced Usenet-client features I was using decades ago are available.

So far, lemmy just seems to copy reddit with most of its conceptual downsides except federation.

@ademir_lemmy_br @pedro If lemmy (or some other community) would provide a AP-to-NNTP gateway, I would reconsider because then I'd be able to use the advanced client features I'm looking for.

Don't see that coming either. 🤷

With more and more platforms failing, I get picky where I contribute to. I'd rather not than use something I'm not convinced of. Focusing on my blog (Atom/RSS) + Mastodon + book writing + giving PIM lectures in RL seems to be my path as it seems.

YMMV of course 🙇
