And we are back online. There was a problem with the hardware we couldn't fix on our own so we had to wait for a technician to fix it for us. Now there will be some lagging because of full queues for a while. #mastoadmin
Beside that we found an error in our mailserver config that led to some mails not reaching us. If you send a mail to us between 11.5.24 and today and you got no answer please try again. According to our log this may affect up to 5 Mails. #mastoadmin
I use my Sidekiq retries count on my Mastodon instance as sort of a #VIX index for the health of the fediverse in general. Anything over 200 means a bunch of my peers are having trouble with their server or media but have not officially been sent to the graveyard of dead instances yet after 7 days of unresponsiveness, and anything under 100 is basically background noise. I'm posting this because I logged in and noticed I was at a tidy 80 this morning. #MastoAdmin
I am thinking of breaking #Postgres and #ElasticSearch to a separate server instead of increasing my current VPS resources.
I'll have two servers. My main, which will run Mastodon, and another that will have Postgres and ElasticSearch on it.
Will I benefit by doing this or should I just move ElasticSearch to its own server? What is the minimum CPU/ram I can get for the second server & what should I get?
Is it me or are reports in #mastoadmin sometimes really confusing and unclearly laid out? Also I seem to get moderation from people on different instances about people on other instances not my own, is this normal?
...and phpc.social is back from the reboot. Secondary queue workers needed a bit of extra nudging but are online now and queues have cleared, so y'all can return to your normally scheduled posting :)
phpc.social is now on Mastodon 4.2.9, released a little over 3 hours ago. We're also taking this opportunity to run OS updates, so will have a brief blip as the server reboots shortly.
:skull360: We have now successfully upgraded to v4.3.0-alpha.3+mementomods-2024-05-26. The server has Mastodon Bird UI 2.0.0rc37 installed with no further changes at this time in the UI.
The branch is now synced and up-to-date and 158 commits ahead from the last version 2024-05-01.
I love running the newest version so I can test ahead in production for the upcoming Mastodon Bird UI versions. I do have my local instance with the production db, but it is far more fun this way and it feels good to have new things.
This "testing in live" is also because it's the perfect way to make sure that I can help contributing to Mastodon and spot bugs before they end up in the final rc, beta or stable versions. There most probably will be some minor bugs, but the earlier we tackle them the better.
As usual, please tell me about any strange things you may encounter with this Mastodon version. We're running bleeding edge after all.
I hope you enjoy your time here. Feel free to send me a message if you have anything in mind. :bunhdheart:
