Most Fediverse software supports image uploads, so there's no reason to use Imgur for image hosting. Hell, even on my small single-user server (atomicpoet.org), image hosting is easy peasy. Not only is Imgur not needed, they're an annoyance for those of us who are used to seeing images natively on the Fediverse....
Between this and the ongoing changes on Twitter, and upcoming changes on Reddit, I hope it's becoming ever more clear that we can't rely on profit-driven corporations when it comes to maintaining our public commons.
"Imgur, an image-hosting site that has been one of the web's go-to spots for linking hi-res images since 2010 [...] intends to remove "explicit images" and "old, unused, and inactive content" as of May 15."
THEY COULD PROTECT THE #democracy THEY OPERATE WITHIN YET THEY DO NOT.
Nations should demand weekly reporting measures until elections complete.
"Social media firms ‘not ready to tackle misinformation’ during global elections
Experts urge big tech companies to ensure their platforms are equipped to protect democracy in 2024 votes"
(Context: Imgur's owners are to ban all adult-rated posts after may 14th. And with adult rated they mean "short kirts and cleavage". This is not porn, or even nudity. It's "Ban swimsuits")
Let me say it again for the people in the back: Neo-puritanism is a clear danger to society and democracy, aimed att removing women's rights and often moves in goose-step with abortion bans (as it does now in America).
#Imgur apparently blocked all my VPNs. Please do not use Imgur, especially since they have been cracking down on VPN usage and no, I’m not going to disable it just to view images.
There are other alternatives, especially given their misguided choices they made recently with NSFW content and deleting images not associated to an account after a certain period of time.
lol I'm on the front page of #imgur (of course it's for #tht, simps =p)
Figured following that Alabama mayor thing, best thing to do is poison any attempted doxxing.
So fuck it. I wear cute socks. I wear skirts. If that's a problem with you, find an icepick and remove the part of your brain causing that problem because I'm not stopping
Browsing it via mobile, you get a completely different, specialized UI – it's the very worst mobile website I have ever seen and it just never gets fixed.
On the contrary, not only is scrolling still broken after 5+ years, but after a recent "upgrade" you can only activate sound for a video if you load its gallery page.
So, your browser loads the entire video, but you'll have to load an entirely new page and reload the entire video to get sound.
Popular image host imgur has announced that it will ban explicit content from its service beginning on May 15.
Perhaps more importantly, the company also announced it will begin purging old and unused photos that are not tied to a registered account. This will result in an enormous amount of link rot, especially on early Reddit where imgur was the image host of choice.
Looks like the #XFCE#screenshot tool will soon have that awkward "Upload to #Imgur" option dropped. Good riddance! I never understood features like this one, especially when it goes to a #proprietary service.
Imgur links suck
