My year with Mastodon (#MastodonWrapped)
I celebrated my first #Mastoversary a few days ago. It’s been a good first year on Mastodon for me; I like the #Fediverse idea, I like people here, and I like the calm vibe this place offers.
Also, I ditched all of my other #SocialMedia accounts. All but one.¹
As I say, Mastodon is a good #platform to be, however there are a couple of things I’ve been struggling with the whole time. I’m going to put together a brief summary below in hope that someone can help me with them.
¹ I still keep Instagram to exchange cute pics of sloths and pandas, and ice-hockey reels with my sons. 😁

The thing that buggers me the most is boosting.
I know boosting is important because it’s the only way to spread the news around as there are no #algorithms here to force-feed us what they “think” is good for us, and I’m quite a #booster myself, too. But I’ve cut back a bit recently for a simple reason: I can’t hide boosted posts from my #profile.
I mean, when someone views my profile I want them to see my toots first so they can get an idea of who I am and, conversely, when I visit someone else’s profile I prefer to see what they have to say.
If you’re a generous booster but not so creative in the “#ContentCreation” department, just like me, you get a profile full of re-blogged posts where your original #toots are hard to find. And no, #Pinned toots don’t do the trick.
If there’s a #hack to work around this, I would much appreciate if you share it here.

It's a lot harder to follow your dreams in life than not. People say following dreams is lazy, they say it shows that you don't take life seriously or that you live in your own head and are selfish.
This is completely incorrect, people who follow their dreams are inspiring and brave and it usually takes a huge amount of work to achieve their dreams, lazy is not the right word to describe those who follow their dreams at all... continued in comments
It's likely that doing things that the judgemental people want you to do will not make you happy, so you need to make a choice just for you. It's not easy, it's definitely not lazy but it can absolutely be worth it.

For @mitch_deadberg - we wanted to show you how we make South Indian Filter Coffee! This coffee (a 80:20 mixture of coffee / chicory) is made with a metal filter. This filter makes enough for about 2 times but can be found in bigger sizes. You put about 2-4 tbsp of coffee depending on how strong you want it. You place the metal plunger on top, pour the water and then let the decoction brew. It usually takes about a half hour.
@mitch_deadberg Once the decoction is finished, you can start to boil milk on the stove. You can use any milk - dairy is probably best but we use soy and oat.
While the milk is boiling, you pour some of the decoction into a metal cup. Traditionally, you have filter coffee in metal cups with a tumbler and a saucer. Once you add the decoction, you can also add sugar.
@mitch_deadberg Then the fun really begins! Once the milk is warm but just getting to a boil, you turn it off and you pour it into the tumbler. The higher the better - that way you get the froth!
@mitch_deadberg Once you get a nice foam, you can sit down and enjoy! This is our way of doing it but everyone has some variations.
Full Disclosure: We usually use soy or oat milk, the later which just doesn't foam up as well as regular milk. So the foam in the photo below was made with an electric foam maker. But still just as tasty! It foams up perfectly with dairy milk (and better with soy).
