@cs
So the 97% Australians of Settler Heritage voted overwhelmingly against giving First Nations any voice at all at the big white table of government .
This shows that most of the AoSH majority have brought ALL their nasty prejudices (and ignorance) with them when they emigrated here and have learnt nothing.
@aby You can call it socialism or left leaning but what this referendum shows is both the overwhelming meanness of 2/3 Australians and/or the gullibility that they believed the dross swilling around social media.
An educated, empathetic and open minded population wouldn't have voted this way.
So far I'm seeing a lot of white and non-Indigenous people be shocked that Australia is racist, seeing them talk about how now they know where the most racist parts are they'll go elsewhere on holidays, and tone police Indigenous people for telling colonisers to fuck off.
If you're Aboriginal (actually, if you're Black, Indigenous, a Person of Colour) you might want to vote in the #referendum early.
Considering that the #VoiceToParliament question is the only thing we're voting on, it's likely that the entrance to polling places are going to be lined with racists spewing their hatred of us.
It's ok to protect yourself and go vote early to dodge them.
You'll be asked if you're eligible for early voting - just say yes. They shouldn't ask you specifics, but if they do, just tell them you're travelling on Saturday (travelling is a valid reason to vote early).
I got an HD on the paper I handed in last week. It was a critical analysis of the policy report from People with Disabilities Australia and Domestic Violence NSW.
I'm pretty chuffed with the comment I got from my lecturer 😊
Can people talking about the non-binary thing as being 'new' maybe consider that non-binary people have been around in Indigenous communities forever and try decolonising your concept of gender a little, thanks.
I just wish people would think more critically when it came to the Voice stuff, instead of pushing points without thinking.
Like, people keep saying that the Voice is an important step in the way to Treaty.. I'd invite you to think about it a little more and consider we have a good reason not to believe that (235 good reasons, tbh..).
Does the Australian government want Treaty?
-- if yes, why aren't they asking a referendum about it?
-- if yes, why aren't they clearly stating that they want Treaty?
-- if no, do you believe that they would institute a Voice as a step towards something they don't want?
-- if no, doesn't it make sense that the Voice is a set up so we stop pushing for Treaty?
It all comes back to what Audre Lorde warned - "the master's tools will never dismantle the master's house"
It is with great sadness that Debbie Kilroy has had to travel interstate to urgently relocate one of our sistas who is an Aboriginal Elder and who is one of the Stolen Generation.
We must get her out of her home where she is experiencing abuse and is not safe. She is very unwell and lives on oxygen. Her prognosis is not good.
She has to leave with only the clothes she is wearing, her medication and oxygen tank.
They will travel together by vehicle interstate and secure safe accommodation near a hospital so she is cared for and free from violence. There is no affordable accommodation across the country so the funds donated will go towards securing private rental until we can secure public housing near a hospital.
Please help us so she can live a longer life free from violence and live in a safe home.
Our native Jewish homeland has been colonized by the Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Crusaders, Ottomans, and British. Our refugees have been expelled or exterminated at least once from almost every country where we sought shelter. Calling us colonizers on our native land is not just wrong, it is using our collective suffering against us and telling us that we are unwelcome everywhere. #antisemitism#racism#colonialism#decolonise#microaggresion#Israel
