Finished #ChainedEchoes and the extra side quests / rewards tree tonight. A fun game! And I much preferred it over #SeaOfStars, which I did like too. Good old RPG fun. I wish there was more to do now that my characters are maxed out, but oh well, I guess it’s time to move on. If anyone can recommend any similar games for the #switch, I’d love to hear about them! Heard good about #OctopathTraveler but it’s quite expensive, so it gotta be really good. Is it?
Welp. Nearing the end of Chained Echoes. Just a couple more sections to go. Been an interesting journey! Good game, been a solid A- but maybe the ending will bump it up… We shall see!!!
Further progress in #ChainedEchoes and it’s really growing on me. Character development system, including equipment modding, is great. Battles are challenging/interesting and fun. The story so far is kinda meh, and I still find it ridiculous how you can’t move past the tiniest of obstacles. But I’m definitely having a good time.
I had some time to spare yesterday, so I got started playing #ChainedEchoes. A lot to like, and I'm sure I'll enjoy this game a lot. The only thing that's slightly annoying so far is how it's not obvious where one is allowed to walk on the map. Even things like a few leaves on the ground constitute obstacles that you can't pass through. I had to use the map not so much for navigation but mosly just to know where it was possible to move. Perhaps it's something I'll get used to.
I finished #SeaOfStars on the switch yesterday. Both the first ending and the “perfect ending” after that. Great game with a story that really stayed with you! But I couldn’t help wanting more freedom in terms of travel, dialog choices or quests. Having asked around a little here on fedi, it seems like #ChainedEchoes might be just that game, so that’s what I’m playing next. But first for a break to tend to my side projects for a week or two.
I'm having a ton of fun with #ChainedEchoes. The game seemed to lose a bit of steam when the map opens up (mid-game-ish), but the story picks up speed soon after and it's become a super roller coaster!
Boss battles are quite hard, and you need to use all sorts of support spells (buffs, debuffs, preparation for crits, etc.) if you want to have any chance, but it makes for a great experience, even if sometimes it's a bit frustrating.
The combat in this game is awesome. Starting from the great design choice of starting each fight with full HP and MP, so you're not dragging wounds around the dungeons. Also, the overdrive system is great and very strategically interesting. And since the leveling system is tightly controlled, there's no grinding to do.
My only complaint is that there are several difficulty spikes, with encounters that feel extremely (and unfairly) hard.
One of my likings in #gaming seems to be »basic puzzle embedded in story.«
I spent more than an hour the other day figuring out the sliding boxes puzzle in #ChainedEchoes. I wouldn’t have had the patience in a pure/abstract puzzle game.
Second example: pinball. As cool as mechanical pinball machines are, I get bored by them very quickly. But I tremendously enjoyed #YokusIslandExpress, which build a #metroidvania around the pinball mechanism.
The new #RPG#SeaOfStars will be available tomorrow. I played the demo and loved the #pixelart and the flow. Reminds me of #ChainedEchoes - another modern pixel RPG I really enjoyed. There wasn't much story or character development in the demo, so we will see. Looks promising and first reviews are very positive. It will be difficult for me to find the time between BG3, FFXVI and Starfield but I'll put it on my evergrowing wishlist.
