Chris Skidmore's resignation & upcoming by-election may be an opportunity for Lewisham Mayor Damien Egan. He has been selected for the newly established safe North East Bristol. This will absorb parts of Skidmore's Kingswood which is being abolished at the next General Election.
Labour will not have selected a candidate and the winner will only be in post for a few months.
Logical then to blood Damien in the by-election.
We attempted to wassail our favourite apple tree today but the swollen River Avon got in the way. Waved a cider bottle at an alternative tree in the park and then went to the pub. Happy #TwelfthNight#Bristol
Didn’t there used to be an open-access electronics / making things workshop in Bath or Bristol? Sort of place where you could pay a membership fee to use the facilities? Or am I dreaming it?
Anyone have any pointers? @jarkman or @jonty, do either of you have any ideas?
My son (21) is keen to do some building / making but our spare room is a poor substitute for a proper workshop.

After a lovely year with the fine folk at idlethumbs.social (thanks @tabacco) I wanted to move to an instance closer to home where I'll feel marginally less guilty about filling the local feed with posts about The Demon Headmaster or musings about the age of the air in a scotch egg.
Meanwhile in #Bristol, another tower block is found to have structural problems that indicate a major collapse could be caused by fire or other problems....
Increasingly we are reaping the harvest of shortcuts in #construction & maintenance - short-termism is now biting back!
Bloody hell, the team at The Old Bookshop in Bedminster, #Bristol, know what they're doing. Beautifully clear menu of all the beers on offer, in legible print rather than ‘quirky’ handwritten chalk. And great service patter: “I’ll bring your beer over. It just needs 30 seconds to settle for a perfect pint...” #beer
“We heard Wes Streeting would be coming down to do a talk on university and personal statements,” one year 13 student involved, Amina, told Novara Media. “But as a year group, we wanted to show our support to those in Palestine.
“Keir Starmer [has] stated he does not support calls for a ceasefire. None of us agreed with this, so collectively we showed our position by not attending.”
According to a parent of a child at the school, which has a high number of Muslim students, Israel’s genocide in Gaza is “politicising young people like nothing has before”.
