It's a Sunday, which means another day in our bookshop! 2024 has been a patchy year so far, so I'm hoping the better (?) weather brings bookish types out! #bookshop#scottishborders#books
Added Ophelia Bell's shop to my list of DRM-free bookshops! 💜
Ophelia Bell is the USA Today bestselling author of the award-winning Fate’s Fools series and loves a good bad-boy and especially strong women in her stories.
Where (in England) do they sell physical copies of mathematics and physics textbooks that you can pick up and peruse before buying?
The obvious answer is Foyles on Charing Cross Road, but lately the selection of maths & physics textbooks there has been pitiful. They're barely bothering to stock textbooks any more (it didn't look much better for the adjacent chemistry and biology sections either), and lately when I've gone, it's not sated my need to physically shop for textbooks.

Visiting Bow Castle Broch we took advantage to have lunch in the #Cloudhouse Cafe as well as getting a book fix at the wonderful Wedale bookshop in Stow (rhymes with Wow not Toe), perfectly situated for the walk and close to one another in Stow.
Been to Alnwick today to swap a box of kids books for a handful of weightier tomes at Barter Books. We then popped into town to search out a new independent bookshop. What a brilliant find. The Accidental Bookshop is well worth a visit. Article here from its opening in 2022.
🇪🇸 Madrid’s OLDEST bookshop, the San Ginés Book Shop
A stone’s throw from one of the most famous places in #Madrid for churros with chocolate is this picturesque #bookstore. The San Ginés #BookShop is actually one of the oldest #bookshops in #Spain
It is situated in the scenic Pasadizo de San Ginés, between Calle Arenal and Calle Mayor, near the parish of the same name and Chocolatería de San Ginés
Its beginnings can be traced to the 17th century when #Diego_Logroño ⏩
Last night I wanted a new audiobook to listen to. I usually just use Apple Books but am giving Libro.fm a shot because they’re DRM-free and have a scheme to support local brick and mortar bookstores. 📚
"I am optimistic about the power of technology to change the world, and in terms of our fight against climate change it’s the strongest lever that we have by far"
Interestingly I was just flicking through this book in a #bookshop today. I really wanted to align with these promissory views of a tech solution to #climateChange. I really did.
But from skimming the text, I just couldn't get excited.
Capitalism and technology are so entangled that they form a massive mutual confirmation bubble of bias.
I didn't end up buying the book. But am open to being convinced that it is a good read!
Dear English-speaking #indieauthor.s, can you help me out with a question on book catalogues? Currently my books are listed in the German VLB, but print on demand providers like Bookvault request the data from Nielsen. How can I get my book data into that Nielsen catalogue? In which catalogues do you list your books? @maryrobinette or @mwl maybe? RT welcome.
"a very large portion of the sales generated by the #Vivlio [#ebook ] ecosystem go to the #bookseller. In other words, we leave most of the margin to the reseller . . . That’s the contractual, legal and operational promise" 😃
I wish I had known about it when I bought my #kobo 😔 …!
While I often use the local indie #bookshop, I also am often in remoter places with no bookshop (sob) So I am interested in online book sellers.
Who among the booklovers uses new-to-me Tertulia.com?
Is it even open to folks outside the US? I'd love to hear about anyone's experience/thoughts
