? I'm almost done with The Twyfor Code, which I LOVE. It's so clever, but also has almost moved me to tears.

I highly recommend the audiobook, especially given that the American print version has changed most of the Britishisms, removing a lot of the narrative flair. 😡 Seriously, we can glork "dosh" and "nippers" from context!

Now off for a walk to finish the last half hour.

"In later years, Agatha would soften the edges of her Miss Marple, making her sweeter and with less bite. In The Murder at the Vicarage, though, she is described as a ‘nasty old cat’. She doesn’t even truly like gardening; she uses it as an excuse to hang around outside to watch who’s coming and going. Early, acidic Miss Marple is actually the Miss Marple I prefer. But perhaps that’s because I’m a nasty old cat myself." - Agatha Christie: An Elusive Woman by Lucy Worsley

@AulisVainionpaa Joo-o. Suosittelen lukemaan David Auerbachin ”Meganets” kirjan. Erittäin oleellisia näkökulmia kuinka populismi tulee todennäköisesti ottamaan lisää jättiharppauksia sitä mukaan kun ihmisten väliset algoritmien moduloimat yhteydet lisääntyvät!

#WhatchaReading ? I'm in the second Lynburn Legacy book and it is in-TENSE. Major "Buffy" vibes, but in the good way.

Also still listening to The Twyford Code. Also getting pretty intense. I'm a little stuck in my current chapter because I'm afraid an innocent person is going to be hurt. :-(

Ironically, the kind of large-scale social contract engineering performed by ”the woke mind virus” is exactly what mega-sized networks of computer algorithms and people need to stay free of centralised censorship and control.

Drop whatever you are doing and take a few minutes to read this piece from @natematias — it's the most important thing I've read this year about the path forward in understanding how information technologies are shaping society, and what we can do to make this a force for good.

@ct_bergstrom @natematias a great book on the it. David B Auerbach is pitching a new term: Meganets to popularise it.

? I'm still really enjoying the Twyford Code. Excellent narration and gripping plot.

I also started Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan and it's a real page turner too. Of course it is, since I started reading it last night. 😂

@bookstodon Hullo friends! In an effort to fill the world with some belly laughs, today I'm asking what books have you read that made you laugh out loud? As in a physical, breath out of your mouth, laugh.

I'll start with a scifi, and it's NOT Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It's a book by R J Burchett and Ron L Lahr called "You get what you steal". Part of the Indy trade is that you support fellow authors, and I had seen this book a few times. When I got sick with the flu and fever I decided to give it a try and was amazed at how delightfully funny it was.

So many times you read "as funny as Hitchhikers", which is subjective, but for me in this case it really was laugh out loud funny.

The writing is fast paced, clear enough to explain the multi lines alien on the front cover, and clever enough that I never saw a joke coming until it had already hit me. Surprise of 2022 for me.

How about you? Please share, and read something suggested by someone else, and enjoy the laughs you may or might not have.

Love you all,
Moriarty.

? I started You Could Make This Place Beautiful last night, not expecting it to be a real page-turner. It's amazing. She's writing partially about trying to find the right narrative to talk about this real life thing that happened to her, and being a poet, she's structured it in the most compelling way.

piazelda,

Read Harder 2023 Task 8: Read a graphic novel/comic/manga if you haven’t before; or read one that is a different genre than you normally read.

I haven't read any manga before, so I chose My Brother's Husband by Gengoroh Tagame https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32337897-my-brother-s-husband-volume-1

This was just beautiful! 🎲6 "an unprecedented and heartbreaking look at the state of a largely still-closeted Japanese gay culture"
