@OutofPrintArchive

This game has a very special place in my heart.

This was the second game I ever played on the N64 at a sleepover. Me and another friend of mine went to the sleepover with a third friend of ours, and we spent the day and night playing games.

I remember in the morning our friend Adam said he was going to change clothes in the bedroom, but he was in there for a while. We went to check on him after like 15 minutes and he was playing Wave Race.

Me: "I thought you were gonna change clothes?"
Adam: "Yeah, I lied..."
Me: 😆

@OutofPrintArchive One of my favourite racing games of all time.

@SimonSays
Same here. To me this is pure perfection. 😊
Same as Sega Rally on Saturn.

The only thing I wish for after all these years was that we had more courses and settings.
Leave everything else exactly as it is, but add more tracks to race on.

If they told me I had to leave everything behind and could only bring a handful of games with me, these two, alongside Crazy Taxi would be at the top of my list.

Infinitely repayable.

@OutofPrintArchive @SimonSays My friend had a N64 and this game. I got to play a fair amount and was jealous of it. I had a PS1. I think the closes I got to this game was Jet Moto.

@westhisup @SimonSays
I never really got into Jet Moro, I don’t know why. As on paper it should be right up my alley…

@OutofPrintArchive @SimonSays I always like the very unique or unrealistic racing games. I’ll admit that I only got the first game and played it for awhile but stopped after a couple of months.

@westhisup @SimonSays
Me too! That’s what makes them so much fun! 😄
There’s a reason why Excite Truck is one of my favourite games on Wii.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @westhisup Oh Excite Truck is fantastic! I'm still annoyed they never released the sequel in Europe.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@SimonSays @westhisup
It didn’t make any sense!
Sure it bombed I’m in the US, but still.
Why not give it a second chance in Europe.
I ended up importing the US version and afterwards even the Japanese one which was only available through Club Nintendo platinum points thing.
So it didn’t even get a retail release there either.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @westhisup It didn't? Oh wow I didn't know that at all. Even more insane.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@SimonSays @westhisup
It really is. It’s titled Excite Mou Machine in Japan and has a great shiny cover with little fluorescent sprinkles that light up in certain lighting conditions. It’s really pretty.
I’ll try to remember to take some pictures when I’m home from work.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@SimonSays @westhisup
Can't take a picture of it today as the effect is very subtle and seems to only come out under sunlight.
And it looks to be a rainy day all day long...

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @westhisup Darn that rain!

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@SimonSays @westhisup
Hoping it’s better tomorrow…
The light has to hit it just right to get the effect. And capturing it on a phone is even harder.
This is a previous one taken under regular lighting for instance.
You can barely even notice it, even if you know what to look for.

SimonSays,
@SimonSays@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @westhisup Even without the effect being that visible, I have to say that I do prefer the Japanese cover to the American one.

OutofPrintArchive,
@OutofPrintArchive@mstdn.games avatar

@SimonSays @westhisup me too.
The Japanese artwork for covers and advertising is nearly always so much better.
That’s why I love looking through Japanese magazines so much. Berk going through the 1986 run of Famitsu by Gamjng Alexandria and it’s such a joy seeing all of that.

We lost so much with modern packaging.
