Explored the #PyConUS venue, got my badge (ok, not in that order), said brief hellos to a few friends randomly encountered, and reaped the benefits of having parked immediately adjacent to the hotel elevators last night (fetched a forgotten umbrella 😅).
You know how oftentimes our brains "know" something but our bodies or hearts do not? That was me with "you're gonna be socially anxious as fuck, back around large groups of strangers after 5y hermitage”. One thing to know, another to confirm 😬
Anyway, yea. Anxiety levels THROUGH THE ROOF. I'm always anxious as fuck at conferences' first years anyways - completely new context, unfamiliar city/venue/etc, lots of strangers, etc.
And the ones who are /aren’t/ strangers are randomly distributed, ready to ambush you at any time! 🤣
Compound all that with pandemic lockdown 2020s brain and…I'm gonna be in my room periodically, for sure. Plan “spring for the adjacent hotel” was a good idea.
