I kinda feel this one.. I grew up with the idea that someday I would own my very own house but nowadays that seems like a distant dream. And I’m freaking 31 already

@stux Not sure how the NL is handling house prices, but in the U.S. it is absolutely driven by 2 factors:

  1. Shortage of inventory; and
  2. Investment properties. (1/5)

@stux I was lucky enough to buy a house in 2009 when housing prices were low. I was in my late 20s at the time. I'd like to move to something a bit bigger and doesn't have an HOA, but prices are out of control and I don't think I could afford anything else right now.

@stux This always happens places that become desirable, and people move to more affordable places, which are many, if having a house is more important than living near this or that. People who want to own their home and live life that way(count me as one of them) can find a place to do that. Might not be near the parents in the sweet desirable neighborhood.

@susiemagoo Well in this case it seems everywhere 😉

Ofc some palces are much more then others but in general the bar has gotten a looot higher

I am the first child of 3, and about a year or so before i was born my parents had their house build next to my grand parents

And I'm talking about a reasonable big house with a garden etc

And I remember something that after 12-14 years or so it was sold ~300K over the build price. That amazed me at the time and it was before it went totally crazy like the current state

@stux owning your own home, and real estate investment in general, used to be a long term investment. People used to get a decent return on the house they raised their familie in. And then they could move on to the next stage in their life. Now you have all these huge, short term, fast return on investment locusts, that make owning a home, or even renting one without getting into debt, imposdible.

rominator,
