@badastro The universe is full of fascinating, yet counterintuitive, things. For example, do you know how much mass the Sun is losing per second as it radiates energy into the void? About 4.26 MILLION metric tonnes. Per second. The Sun is losing 0.71 of a Great Pyramid in mass per second.

Mass is equivalent to energy, so I got that by dividing the Sun’s luminosity per second by the speed of light squared.

@badastro so, the light we’re seeing is from 12 billion years ago, which due to universal expansion means this absolute unit of a black hole is greater than 12 billion light-years distant now and accelerating in the other direction (effectively)? Love to break some physical laws and get an idea of what it’s gotten up to since - has it run out of food, is it working on sucking in another whole galaxy for elevenses?
