If I were to wait 24 hours, there would be no news. It would be old stories that have less relevance that have been forgotten about as more news breaks. It’s called Life.

2 things, if I may, and I say this in a friendly way, so don't take it otherwise:
Telling someone to "relax" is dismissive. It immediately makes me not relax & irks me.
I have plenty of shit going on too. Just had a major death in the family, moving to a new country, US fascism, I could go on. The big stuff is bad, the small stuff compounds it. So yeah, trolls are the least of my worries too. So what?

I can't experience your issues. All I can say is, "you can only control what you can control." Other than that, try not stress about it.
@george I agree, and thanks for clarifying because I was on the verge of blocking. You get total bonus points for taking the time to understand and respond thoughtfully instead of stomping your foot and doubling down.
@GottaLaff I feel like this solution (stepping away for a while) is extra effective on the fediverse. Because moderation happens and it works. But it takes time. So report a few trolls, step back to let moderation take its course. And when you come back a few hours (or a day) later, the accounts might actually be gone and maybe you won’t even see the posts. Stay safe. Stay strong. Glad you do what you do.
@GottaLaff — there is a Mastodon algorithm that populates the “Local Timeline” and “Federated Timeline” for users. When you’re established, you never go through it because you have your own Home Feed. But newbies, they gotta start somewhere. Your content is likely being dropped in front of every new user and that is an opportunity for every new troll. I ran a little social experiment where I lead a troll around by the nose and manipulated the algorithms to my favor.
@GottaLaff I’m very sorry. This was always bound to happen, now that Twitter is a hellscape. Some of the trolls there were always going to follow us to other platforms.

But some of the idiocy comes from well meaning Dems, too.
I'm tired of people ranting irrationally, calling for things that are obviously unfeasible, and "____ for president!" every time someone says or does one good thing.
It's juvenile and annoying. So it's not just "trolls" per se. Unfortunately.
Nothing quite as annoying as people who think they are being supportive but doing so in a destructive way. The old, "With friends like these, who needs enemies?" conundrum.
It's why I often do not respond, as I fear being that annoying person. I've experienced it too many times to not be sensitive to it.
As for being used to it, you shouldn't have to be used to it. So I'll still wish I could smite 'em before you have to deal with 'em. :ablobcathappypaws:
@GottaLaff yes, I was told to light myself on fire last weekend after something re: IsraelHamas conflict I put up....and I don't have near the reach you do. It was a new, 0 follower account.
I block quite a lot....because I just don't want a Twitter type experience....my instance moderator is really good about getting people blocked or blocking whole instances that spout a lot of hatefull or harmful bs. Take care of yourself and thanks for all you do to keep us informed
