    Isn't it sort of odd how both of these words that describe incredibly common realities we all live with...have remained so absent from mass media??

    Weird, huh?

    Or options for true democracy also never discussed. Democracy was never meant to be by election. It was always meant to be by Sortition to prevent oligarchy and plutocracy.

  • CJPaloma,

    @GhostOnTheHalfShell @dworkin I mean it's almost as if the good people that own corps that produce most of our for profit "entertainment and news" don't want us to know about certain things.

    It's almost as if they want people to just shut up, know their overall places, and buy stuff…so they can signal their superiority within those predetermined places...

    But that can't be part of why the wealthy buy up mass media outlets, right?

    How else can we call them? That's what they are, literally.

    They can even buy elected officials and supreme court members.

    @dworkin Abolish American billionaires.

    @dworkin I have a backlogged complaint about using that word for Russian billionaires. Oligarchy means rule by a few. The problem is:

    1. There are way too many of them. Enough for a senate.
    2. AND they are entirely submissive and are rewarded for NOT trying to influence politics. If they speak, they go out a window. Russia is a 1-man dictatorship, not an oligarchy.

    Contrarily, US billionaires do influence laws and policies. Our billionaires are much MORE like oligarchs than Russia's.

    @dworkin I’m not sure if you follow the NFL but Mike Florio regularly refers to NFL owners as oligarchs. He created Pro Football Talk and he has his shows on NBC/Peacock
