There is no shame in posting the same thing repeatedly or boosting your own posts. On Mastodon it's the necessity, different people are awake during different hours. #Mastodon #MastodonTips

@paninid My favourite video about the subject https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5wpm-gesOY

A lot of meaningful messaging is lost, because people feel they shouldn't repeat themselves. Good to encourage reposting!

@rolle I've never seen anything wrong with boosting/retweeting my own posts. I've always found it ridiculous to construe a huge difference between publishing them and republishing them.

@hllizi @rolle I love how people will pay to see a comedian’s live show in which they tell the same jokes as they do on their Netflix special, but folks who repost their own jokes (which they conceive and share for free) on social media are treated like hacks.

YUP!

sbb,

@rolle "Masterbootion" is when you boost your own post. You are the master of your own posts, and you're boosting them.

josephramoney,

@rolle
@MattFerrel

If you fill my timeline with your own, or too many other peoples boosts, all at once, im gonna block you just the same

rolle,
@rolle@mementomori.social avatar

@josephramoney It's your right to do so, go for it! 👍 @MattFerrel

@rolle thanks for posting this. Now I won't feel bad for multiple rant posts about the same issue within 15 minutes 🙂

@timo21 👍

@rolle But it is annoying when someone reposts a dozen or so posts in quick succession, so your feed ends up being just them for a while. Especially when you're seeing the same posts two, three or four times, often from weeks ago. I have a particular person I follow in mind, should I tell them? I don't know them personally.

rolle,
@rolle@mementomori.social avatar

@felicitymartin You can mute a person or a word for a certain time or infinitely.

felicitymartin,
@felicitymartin@mastodon.scot avatar

@rolle Yes, I may use the mute option next time I find my timeline filled by the same person's reposts.

JStatePost,

@felicitymartin @rolle 🥥 I hope you're not talking about ME, Felicity.
I'm so vain I though your toot was about me. 🥥

Ryuken_san,

@rolle Different hours and I'd say different months too, for those who come here very very rarely 😂

true but use common sense, every 10 mins will kinda kill the vibe

@dekkzz76 I like this feature:

🥥 Kewl feature, not available on my instance. 🥥

TonyDF,

@rolle Good point. Given the absence of a Twitter-like algorithm, each user is his/her own algorithm

    @rolle There's no shame in it, but it can get kind of annoying to your followers who see the same content over and over. Especially if you un-boost and re-boost the same post over and over.

    rolle,
    @rolle@mementomori.social avatar

    @martincrownover If it gets annoying, you have every right to unfollow, block or mute, the features are very versatile here. 👍

    @rolle Oh sure. I'm just saying that people should be aware of how they are affecting others' timelines.

    tallpaul,

    @rolle ... but rest assured that I will not follow you if you do this as I read every post of the people I follow.

    rolle,
    @rolle@mementomori.social avatar

    @tallpaul It's your choice! 👍

    Piousunyn,

    @rolle

    Once someone posts something, the only way to m post it over several times is copy and paste on a computer, not an android ?

    rolle,
    @rolle@mementomori.social avatar

    @Piousunyn Just unboost and boost it again.

    Piousunyn,

    @rolle

    Thanks, I tried it and it worked.

    Fragglemuppet,

    @rolle Thanks, considering I just did something like that, lol.

    afanofthemovies,

    @rolle That's what I do with my polls 😀

    lupposofi,

    @rolle Sounds weird, to say the least. 😲 This is the first time I hear that self-boosting might be considered appropriate even in social media. But I have been here only 7 months (tomorrow) and not aquainted with the modern boasting and glowing etiquettes. Sounds ominously like marketing, but maybe it's just me and my old-school manners?

    aeu,

    @rolle

    Says the guy who didn't boost his own post...
