@N4JAW I grew up out West in the desert and also around a lot of evergreen trees. One of the amazing things I noticed back east (Baltimore, Pittsburgh) was how you can see so much further in the Winter than you can in the Summer.
Also, fireflies! We don't have those out West. Too dry I suppose.
@wa7iut It is weird, I hardly see fireflies like I did as a kid (50's) My summers were spent in Western Kentucky at my grandparents. My cousins and I would fill small Mason Jars of them nightly. If I see one in the summer here, it is rare.
@N4JAW@wa7iut I grew up in southern Indiana, and we always caught fireflies and put them in Mason jars, too! That reminds me of my childhood. It was our nightlight every summer night. I can almost feel the hot, humid nights
@N4JAW@wa7iut you know, another thing that Mason jars remind me of is moonshine. My dad worked with this old guy who was originally from Eastern Kentucky. Corbin area, if I recall correctly. He'd go back down there every few weeks and come back with Mason jars full of moonshine in the trunk of his car. I remember having a taste when I was about 15 and I thought I'd go blind!
@bud_t@wa7iut LOL! Oh yes I know about the white lighting very well. One Christmas at same grandparents, I developed pneumonia, Grandmother place a couple of teaspoons in a juice glass with honey.. Knocked the pneumonia right out of my lungs with me with it.
