If I will #recommend a #fediverse software that needs support (developer and financial(?)), it is #Plume.

Plume is “a federated blogging application”. Basically, it is a blogging software that was made for the fediverse network.

Features I like:

  1. It has comments. The comments also pulls from the fediverse.
  2. Collaborative writing.
  3. License chooser

The project is currently on hiatus, as per the status update on the official website: https://joinplu.me

> Currently, Plume developers have less time and Plume is not actively maintained. New features may take time to be implemented. Could you consider similar purpose software: WriteFreely.

It would be great to see Plume back in action.

That did not sound right. :bd215:

Just to clear things up, all projects need support. What I meant with my post above is, a project that has gone on hiatus, or the development slowed down considerably.

If there are developers looking for a #fediverse project, take #Plume into consideration.

Is there a paradox of tolerance that applies to open standards?

Do we have an obligation to try to be compatible with systems that are intentionally trying to be incompatible with us?

@evan “Obligation to try to be compatible with systems that are intentionally trying to be incompatible” = no, there is no obligation. They're practically sending a message, “get out, you're tresspassing”.

However, I think there is an obligation if the other system/network/dev/protocol is doing their best to be compatible and improve existing protocols. ;)

Its lead developer is @nmkj

I tried to log in with my Calckey account and it worked.

See: https://audon.space/u/@youronlyone@calckey.social

If you want to do real-time audio streaming, give Audon a try!

You can also host it yourself, the project's source code is available here: https://codeberg.org/nmkj/audon

A new version of #fediverse software #Friendica was released today: v2023.04.

Announcement

We are very happy to announce the availability of the new stable release of Friendica “Giant Rhubarb" 2023.04. The highlights of this release are

  • The Mastodon compatible API of Friendica was improved,
  • Drag and Drop functionality was added to the Frio theme for image attachments, and
  • Christian Pöschl from usd AG reported a XSS fulnurability in a javascript dependency in the gallery of the Frio theme that was fixed.

What is Friendica?

Friendica is a decentralized communications platform, you can use to host your own social media server that integrates with independent social networking platforms (like the Fediverse or Diaspora*) but also some commercial ones like Tumblr.

Official announcement: https://github.com/friendica/friendica/releases/tag/2023.04

I disagree with those who say “Let’s focus on spreading awareness for Mastodon—not the Fediverse” for three reasons:

  1. Some people hate Mastodon. If they don’t like Mastodon, they should know about options to their liking.

  2. Some people are looking for alternatives to Facebook, YouTube, Instagram—and Mastodon is not the answer for them.

  3. What about developers looking to build novel and new social media? They should know what ActivityPub does.

What is the difference between PascalCase, camelCase, Kebab-case, and Snake_case?

It all started in programming all the way back in the 90s, but it is very useful in today's world of #hashtags, most specially in the #fediverse.

Let's go over each.

  1. #PascalCase. First letter of every word should be capitalised.

e.g. #ThisIsYetAnotherExample

  1. #camelCase. First letter of the first word should be in lowercase. Every other word after should be capitalised.

e.g. #thisIsAnExample

  1. #Kebab-case. Words are separated with a hyphen.

e.g. #this-Is-an-Example

  1. #Snake_case. Words are separated with an underscore.

e.g. #This_is_An_example

Most #SNS software and apps will not convert Snake_case and Kebab-case hashtags into an active link, so these two are rarely used.

PascalCase is the preferred format as it makes it very easy to read hashtags with multiple words. A camelCase #hashtag is fine as well.

Well, that's as short as it can be.

A question to my fellow autistics / Actually Autistics, have you ever felt embarrassed about something? And do you understand what it means?

Some context.

I'm trying to think of an experience where I felt embarrassed, but I can't think of one. The way I understood embarrassment is you felt ashamed about something. Believe it or not, I don't remember feeling ashamed at all.

For example, there was a time when I slipped when I stepped on the sidewalk. The reason I slipped was because I was looking around trying to find where my crush was hiding (we were waiting to be let in at school for our turn in quarterly major exams).

I understand that it's supposed to be an embarrassing moment. My crush saw me that day, she told me after we started dating (it became a teasing moment, and a constant reminder she was turned-off that day LOL). Frankly, even to this day I can't help but laugh at it whenever I recall it.

But, to feel ashamed of it, I did not feel anything at all other than the pain of crashing into the concrete.

I mean, I just accepted it for what it is, I slipped because I wasn't paying attention where I was stepping, and that's that. I even laughed at myself (and as I've said earlier, still laugh at it to this day). It's my own foolishness to begin with (and oh, you are free to laugh, too, since I'm laughing at myself. :P )

And speaking of laughing… I never minded when people laughed at my expense. I didn't even think of getting angry, or reporting them, or retaliating negatively. If I can think of a comeback, not revenge, I do, otherwise I take it in stride. I am not saying I don't take offence, but I don't react the same way I've observed most people do.

Is that just me? Or, is that something observable with many?

Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts!

@jgjgjgjg Oh. Now that you mentioned ‘regret’, I see it as something that we can not accept, or we had no choice?

I mean, when I make a decision about something, it was a decision I made by myself based on every factor and information available at that time, or that I knew or understood. So, I don't understand how I can regret that decision.

A few years later, yes, I might think of that day and wonder “what if I made this decision instead?” But, it was an intellectual exercise for me, not regret. And the more I think about it, I always come to the conclusion that I wouldn't be who I am today if I made different decisions in the past.

Based on those, I can only think of 4, or 5 things that qualifies as regret from my past; and it was because I knew the other decision is better, but I freely chose the other.

Does that even make sense?

PS
I'm not saying regrets are bad or anything. Just that, it's not easy for me to understand a lot of emotions and reactions because my tendency is to understand things logically, or intellectually, you know, detached. It's so hard for me to get my feelings into something.

Like ‘embarrassment’, it's one of those that I never learned how to mask. So, there were times when people thought I was heartless or too cold or too mean. ^_^;; But, I just can't process it like most people.

There are also the following in the middleweight category:

You can find a great list here: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/delightful-fediverse-apps For example, maybe a writing-centric platform might be more fitting (depending on what you have in mind).

Seriously?! Who came up with representing “America” as “美” (beautiful) in #Han (#Kanji #Hanja #Hanzi) script?

youronlyone,
@youronlyone@c.im avatar

I have nothing against America, but “beautiful”? Did the Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans find America “beautiful” that it ended being represented with “美”?
