Got rid of some relays (hard to pick which though, and #FOMO). But the load on my RPi became too much (regular OOMs or Mastodon unresponsive for a minute or so while #Sidekiq struggled) and my storage (#Cloudflare #R2) ballooned to ~190Gb… And 99.9% of the posts and media I would never even see.

You can see that #Sidekiq tasks have been slowly going down (fewer users using #Mastodon/#Fediverse?). Then I had this massive drop early May (not sure why, but likely a relay that stopped working).

I've now added a bunch of new relays and seeing the number of tasks going up massively (to the point Sidekiq is running 4-6hrs behind in my #Federated #timeline -- maybe I need to QA and remove some relays?)

Started playing around with #HomeAssistant and cheap #Zigbee sensors and smart powerplugs (and some #esphome, also got some #BLE #Bluetooth sensors I haven't unpacked yet).

It's been a steep learning curve but it's cool that most of the stuff just works (TP-Link #Kasa and #Tapo, #Ikea Zigbee, #Philips #Hue (using the Hue Bridge, not directly connected to my Zigbee coordinator). Some stuff this uses the cloud (but can be used locally), other stuff takes out the cloud entirely. (1/2)

#Philips adds a piece of foam inside #battery packaging to make it look like there's moar inside. The foam size is just a tad smaller than the opening showing the batteries inside. You only notice when you take out the last battery...

How is this even legal… Also how is this "caring for the environment"? Needless foam, bigger empty packaging... ugh

@MonaApp can something be done to let the mona app refresh/load new Toots when the app is closed (not quit; ie cmd+w to close all active windows) on OSX? when I open it, it’s a few hours behind and fetching all the content is quite slow. Why does it not occasionally load content in the background?

Been using @MonaApp on iPad instead of @IceCubesApp and I think I'm starting to prefer Mona app... Sorry 😅

Icecube progress stalled a bit, and the app is generally quite slow to load new toots if you haven't opened it in a while.

(Not yet as convinced of Mona on Mac, I enjoy the speedy #mastodon web interface).
