STAT: A new discovery about carbon dioxide is challenging decades-old ventilation doctrine (TLDR; viruses like CO2 levels being high) https://www.statnews.com/2024/06/04/co2-ventilation-research-virus-airborne-life-haddrell-celebs/

Oh GitHub.

@sclower filed a discussion item (with @jscholes confirming) and since I was bumping into it during a call today I also made a video:
https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/127592

A lot going on here:
• Verbose.
• The instructions sometimes lie.
• Some triggers are a problem.
• Fake-dialog has issues.
• Those are links, not disclosure triggers.
• Verbose.
• Also, verbose.

NVDA navigating this “hover card” pattern, first via link shortcut keys (through 0:22), then tabbing at 0:25, then virtual cursor at 0:38. I try to trigger it at 0:08 and 0:10 to no avail.

Big news: Kitsune Tail's Steam Next Fest demo is live now! Go get it at https://store.steampowered.com/app/1325260 and experience the first part of this queer furry love triangle wrapped in an SMB3 jacket

You should definitely check the options. There's a CRT shader in Kitsune Tails made by @JoshJers which isn't on by default (because people get upset by that kinda thing) but playing with it on is totally the recommended experience

And for those of you who have Steam Decks, we've verified it works on that, too! And there's a new reveal trailer, showing off some of the bosses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRBcm5fagUU

The latest TestFlight build of Dice by PCalc has a new Pride dice theme which can be tinted to show a wide variety of flags (all the ones that are in PCalc currently).

I'm generating the stripes on the fly, based on a underlying greyscale gradient texture, so I should be able to use that same technique for more intricate designs that can be recoloured.

A set of dice showing the bi pride flag.

#Inklusion #Barrierefreiheit

I am not the only one to say this:

Please remember that WCAG itself is the bare minimum of . Conforming to WCAG does not guarantee something is accessible. It does not even guarantee something is usable. All WCAG does is provide you with a starting point. Lots of WCAG failures suggest the page has not even made it to the starting line.

Which I say at the end of this post comparing free automated WCAG testing with manual testing:

HTML and ARIA each have tri-state controls: the checkbox (HTML) and the toggle (ARIA, and ‘toggle’ is not its formal name). They have different purposes (form participant and not). They, appropriately, look and function differently. They live in isolation unless you group them appropriately. They are always watching you, judging.

“Check-All / Expand-All Controls”
https://adrianroselli.com/2024/03/check-all-expand-all-controls.html

This is an oblique reminder to choose the right control for the right purpose.

Do you need some good news? We only have to replace one-third of the energy generated by fossil fuels with renewables to meet our energy demand. Sounds weird? Here’s why: https://youtu.be/EVJkq4iu7bk?si=OuVh11T0jPnr_bGI

aardrian, to random
@aardrian@toot.cafe avatar

Rough “toggle” guidelines:

  1. Use <button aria-pressed> for immediate effect and when JS is known to exist:
    https://adrianroselli.com/2019/08/under-engineered-toggles-too.html

  2. Use a checkbox for submissions and when maybe no JS (PE):
    https://adrianroselli.com/2019/03/under-engineered-toggles.html

  3. Use either of above with role="switch" only when it will never have an indeterminate state:
    https://adrianroselli.com/2021/10/switch-role-support.html

  4. Avoid Apple’s proposed switch attribute for now (anchor link):
    https://adrianroselli.com/2021/10/switch-role-support.html#Update02

Adjust as appropriate.

Literally gave a less senior colleague this advice a few weeks ago: it’s okay to volunteer to be the person to step up to handle the new emergency BUT you also gotta say what you’re doing currently that’s now gonna be delayed/late because of the new thing you’re taking on.

You can’t absorb a new responsibility without impacting an existing one, and if you’re not vocal about that, you’re punching yourself in the face.

Don’t punch yourself in the face, y’all. https://glammr.us/@overholt/112527549646116722

Podcast links and podcast links and podcast links.

  1. It's tiring, exhausting, a proper ordeal when you're hard of hearing ( 👋 )
  2. It's long and a written version can be scanned / browsed much more rapidly.

It reminds me of all the pseudo-tutorials on Youtube which could have been a 5-minute read but end up being a 10-minute video, which cannot be copy-pasted.

Bad accessibility. Bad UX all along. I don't listen to podcasts. EVER.

And when it's about accessibility, how could I point out how much this is utter bad taste?

Pardon my French but this sucks.

@debcha Something I’ve been chewing on for a while is how so much of the conversation about “resilience” points to how people need to be more resilient. But actually we need the SYSTEMS to be resilient so that the people can be fallible, not the other way around!

Filed a bug on a pretty inacurate web·dev article today. I appreciate the drive to explain WCAG rules, but you need to be accurate. Text MUST have a 4.5:1 contrast ratio (unless >24px or bold and > 18.6px, then it MUST be 3:1). Don’t weasel word a “should” in there.
