in elementary school, in 4th grade we were able to add band/orchestra/chorus to our schedules. I really wanted to play violin but it was $75 a semester to rent one and we couldn't afford it. I made my own violin with a box, scrap wood for the neck and bow, huge rubber bands for the strings. It didn't work too well. I cried.

another day, another trip for someone to pick up more tile 😅 next time let someone else double check the calculations lmao.

the downstairs hallway bathroom tile is being worked on today. Ian's winds pushed water into this wall over the top of the window and hurricane shutter, then the tile along the wall fell. floor tile intact. we had everything that was water damaged ripped out and treated with mold abatement of course.

spent the entire day working out how the backup software vendor implemented log shipping ... very poorly. 🙀 They're just wrapping around mssql but obviously didn't bother implementing all of the arguments so they're missing some important ones.

for example. if you've implemented logshippin and you want to test it, so your primary is still available, you'd normally take a tail log backup with norecovery (a very dumb name for it tbh) which takes a backup of all the final transactions,

Well, I didn't stop to get gas on my way home as planned today because it was thunderstorming. lucky for me, as it turns out the gas station I was going to go to was selling gas tainted with diesel... but somehow the 7-11 I got gas at earlier this week was not one of the tainted locations. lucky 🍀 still need to find some gas tomorrow.

deeply conflicted by the email I just received about pushing back this feature implementation another three months. I told them January is the worst time to try to cram it in. they pushed from August to January anyway.

this morning I was snoozing my alarm when I heard banging that sounded like it was on the house. the first time the dogs and I paused but ignored, the second time there was no ignoring it for them or me. spouse says, "oh, probably more banging the pilings in across the street." reasonable guess! but it sounded like it was in the house. I put on my dog walking stuff and steeled myself for helping the dogs through a potentially stressful situation, opened the front door....

Thursday/Friday we saw a weird issue at work where pdfs on windows machines started trying to open in drawboard, an application that no one has installed. icons for pdfs within #sharepoint online were displaying as the drawboard icon. it's not a case where the extension is mapped incorrectly on the user machine. #drawboard is not a msft product. based on this thread, it seems to be browser agnostic (though my teammate who is the sp admin only saw it on edge in our env).

got it done. one of my locking tuners wasn't screwing properly and I was lamenting that I didn't have replacements on hand but I managed to fix it. that said, I may still need to replace that string (B) because it got a little hinky and ended up having too much play to get up to tune so now there's too much string around the tuner (with locking tuners you don't want extra string wrapped around it, give it space to move and get out of tune). #guitar

I had cinder out on a walk for what we expected to be her last potty break for the night, it's still bright out... and some fucking jerkwad decided to start setting off fireworks. she turned and bolted home. i gave the dogs some meds once we got home but for fucks sake, let my dog fucking shit in peace. what the hell is the point of setting shit off at 1600 on nye day?! sigh. and I feel bad I didn't take her out sooner.
