@verge I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. The web used to so much more varied. Now 90% of it feels like it fits into a standard template of what Google wants a site to look like and content, design and UI all seems to be made for bots not humans. Kind of feels like Google needs to apologize for ruining the web.

Currently reading HItchhikers Guide to the Galaxy to the little one and two chapters in it’s a hit. Never laughed so hard during stories. Can’t recommend it enough.

Related, also discovered the show Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and blown away by how good it is. The Douglas Adam’s vibes are strong and the cast is excellent.
Bummed they only did two seasons.

@nervous_jessica worth holding a large metal mixing bowl / salad bowl behind the transmitter or the receiver ( like a satellite dish ) a dish can boost range and rates quite a bit 3-4x sometimes.
If it works you could design a more permanent fixture :)

@nervous_jesse @openFrameworks ahh cool!! Well I’d love to chat sometime and see what the biggest pain points are. We’re trying to get things more streamlined / faster workflow and there has been a bunch of recent work to get compile times down a lot.

@helvetica have you played Liar’s Dice?
It’s one of those really simple games where the complexity comes from the players and I’d guess house rules could make for a lot of variation.
Been playing it a bunch with friends - up to 3-6 players is the real sweet spot.

@helvetica we also have prolifico rules ( from this set ). When someone gets down to one die 1s are no longer wild and you can’t change the number on the dice. It gives the person losing a big upper hand.

@helvetica basically the opening number on the dice remains ie 2 5’s can not be followed by 2 6’s only 3 5’s 4 5’s etc.

We might be playing very different versions of the base game actually as 1s are wild in mine except in prolifico. Going to DM you the rules sheet I have.

@verge I’m for it. If it gets people to leave birdsite and I can follow friends on Threads without a Threads account. That makes for a stronger alternative. Would be great if BlueSky followed suit ( feels inevitable maybe? ).

Taking a mini break from Gene Wolfe to read one of his favorite authors, Jack Vance. Loving this collection so far. Vance is as good a writer as Wolfe but mixes in the humor and irony of a R.A. Lafferty or PKD.

The New Prime ( first story ) is opaque but reveals itself in such a magnificent way.

Looking forward to exploring more of Vance’s work like the Dying Earth series.
