We should make pedestrian bridges fun too! Put sliding poles, slides, ladders and stairs, along with visible pulley systems for lifts at each side of these when they are close to the school.

Young active children are less boring than adults and often full of energy. We should let them expend some climbing a ladder, then sliding down the other side. A lift that can be raised by a few kids working together is also a good learning experience.

Safer than walking in front of autos.

Voters out in the "fly over" states who want to buy trucks and tractors that they depend on to do their jobs should be hounding their Congressional Representatives to support opening the port of Baltimore.

Anyone who buys anything from Europe, should also realize that closing the largest port on the east coast of the nation is not going to help their family budget.

Maryland workers support your life!

There are 17 terminals at Baltimore and the location is close to about 30% of the population for truck delivery.

Portland, Maine has 11 terminals. Which I think is second.

As for land area, or TEUs other ports would top those lists. If you are trying to ship to Ohio, then New York or Savannah, let alone Portland, aren't as attractive.

Asking a question with the literal words "I don't know why" and also complaining when people reply with the answer is an extremely stupid behavior that more people need to stop doing.

We need a movement for conscientious objection to ReCaptchas. I don’t want to be forced to participate in training machine learning models to identify sidewalks, crosswalks, buses and cars in order to go about my daily life digitally.

I don’t want driverless cars on my city streets. I don’t believe the fiction that this technology will ever be safe.

I do not consent to using my own cognitive labor to train the models that will mow down people on foot or bikes later with no accountability.

Twitter isn't using it, and strangely enough, I didn't find their alternative too painful. It was entirely vision based and I didn't see any alternative to make it accessible, however.

If you come up with an alternative to captchas, I'd happily stop using these.

Moscow has a long history of taking resources from other places.

I don't understand how people actually claim that the invaders were invaded.

Nobody was out there saying that the Roman Empire was being invaded, while they were conquering so many places.

what would you call a git commit that can no longer be reached from any branch or reference (for example because you ran git commit --amend or git rebase), but that you can still get to from git reflog?

I've considered "orphan", "dangling", and "unreachable" but none of these seem right:

  • orphan has another meaning in git
  • dangling only refers to the "tip" commits
  • "unreachable" means that you can't reach it at all

would love a term that's already used, I don't like inventing terms

Since moving to our 200 year old converted barn, we've had nothing but problems with our Wi-Fi signal. Here's the saga...

@tcely@fosstodon.org avatar

Personally, I'd stop trying to do that inside your house.

If you can bury a cable outside, then that could work. Particularly, if the distance is short enough that you won't need repeaters.

Otherwise, put up a pole on each side of your house then run a wire up the pole to a directional antenna on each pole to connect each side over the top. Feed the signal to each pole from an access point on each side from the closest window. Glass is easier to get radio signals through than stone.

My main use of the deadbird site at this point is to chide journalists for remaining there as supporters of an extremists who hates journalism.

While I'm there, I unfollow a bunch of accounts. In most cases they are people I respect in other ways, but I don't want them to think I support what they are doing.

tcely,

I fully agree with your approach. I locked my account ages ago. Ever since then, each time I access it, I remove at least three followers. Eventually that account will have nobody following it.
