anybody have thoughts on raindrop vs omnivore vs something else for bookmarks*?

currently i try to save links manually in obsidian, which means i often don't save links because of the energy it takes

(*bookmarks can also be temporary for the purpose of "read later", in the style of pocket)

@hi_mayank I have accounts with both Omnivore & Raindrop & am currently using Omnivore daily, probably because I started it using it first.

Generally I really like Omnivore, super easy to save & categorize links. Nice integration w/Omnivore. I don't love that there's no export to CSV option, and the attitude in Discord is pretty much "just use Omnivore or the API".

Raindrop has more flexible export options + IFTTT integrations, which might make it a better option for non-techy people.

@hi_mayank I also prefer the browsing and reading UI of Omnivore. They're similar though, and I haven't given Raindrop a real go as a daily driver.

"Hey this is an interesting way of doing it. We actually do have an OPML API also but we haven't exposed it on the web, just because I don't think our handling of lots of RSS feeds is great yet."

@hi_mayank one thing I forgot to mention about Omnivore that I don't love, they have an active "ai-ideas" channel in their Discord. That's one of the reasons I decided to look at Raindrop tbh.

I'm already 500+ saved articles in so I'm gonna stick around for awhile. But yeah, really bummed to see that. At least I do weekly extract and could probably easy move to Raindrop (unless they're doing some AI nonsense too?)

@rachsmith Raindrop bookmarking app says it offers full text search for PDF and EPUB with a pro plan.

I only have the free plan, so can't confirm. I use Omnivore for bookmarking, but they don't offer full text search for PDFs, and no indication that it's on the roadmap in their Discord. They do have a great Obsidian integration though!

Rooting around looking for something else I found this old Zip 250 drive, probably a bit more than 20 years old. Looks like it has a SCSI port 👀 in addition to the USB.

Might have to see if it still works, I have some disks. I also have some Syquest disks around here somewhere, but pretty sure I don't have the drive anymore.

Added @zachleat's Snow Fall component to the homepage on both of my sites ❄️

Easy to implement and customize. One has full page snow and the other has hero snow. Both have light and dark mode flake colors, both have flake size and frequency that differ from the defaults.
