@jon There’s currently heavy rain and massive flooding in southern Bavaria.

Trains from Austria up to Munich seem to be currently unaffected though.

@elilla This made me think of an old German slang word for “pupil”: “Pennäler“. You got me curious, so I looked it up 🤓

The root word is Latin „penna“, writing feather. The penna is kept in a „pennale“, a feather box.

Accordingly, a „Pennäler“ is one who carries a feather box. TIL.

@w7voa I´m no fan of Google and their data-slurping ways, but I´m not sure what the story is here.

Maintaining a database of such incidents is essential for mitigating them, and learning from them.

It would be irresponsible if Google didn´t have a database like this.

OK, having the database leak is hardly ideal; though it looks like no personal information was exposed.

The back story here is that I’d ordered mushroom brood through someone at my wife’s work. We received it just before going on vacation, and I had no time to properly study how to do this.

So I watched a 5min YouTube video, bought compressed straw pellets from the pet shop, mashed them up with hot water, mixed in the mushroom brood, and put it all into a warm basement room.

Then we went away for two weeks.

Amd now: mushrooms!🍄‍🟫

my Krankenkasse app (SBK) suddenly started refusing to work on my LineageOS. now I have to register a new device, and to do so I need to travel to another city during work hours.

not only it's getting more and more impossible to have access to basic services without a smartphone, it's also getting harder and harder to use a de-googled phone, too. I don't even have Magisk or root in it, just the custom ROM is already rejected.

edit: managed to install magisk and a version of the modules to successfully bypass SafetyNet (basic), but the app still doesn't work.

Recently I got to watch someone who’d been driving electric cars exclusively for close to 10 years get back into a diesel car.

They could drive it fine, but found everything a bit slow and cumbersome.

Shifting gears? What a hassle. Acceleration? Sloooow.
