If you have a account, this is your sign to start using
email aliases to help prevent attackers from trying to brute force your accounts.

Email aliases can be disabled and swapped out during a breach.

We hope you never get to experience it, but if one of your SimpleLogin aliases leaks due to a #databreach, we will notify you.

This is made possible thanks to an integration with the @haveibeenpwned API.

To activate it, open our web app and find the feature in the Settings: https://app.simplelogin.io/dashboard/setting#data-breach

    @delosmzp During the beta phase we had users asking for it not to be on by default, so we made it optional.

    @delosmzp Hi there, we promote privacy by default, which is why offering tools that interact with third parties such as HIBP are off by default.

    @protonprivacy Hi there!
    Why are the Simplelogin SOA records pointing to dns.cloudflare.com instead of protonmail.ch 🤔 🫤

    simplelogin,
    @simplelogin@fosstodon.org avatar

    @chiefbongo @Kdude Hi! We use 3rd party cloud providers for external monitoring of our availability, and also to assure connectivity by tunneling connections through cloud providers that are difficult to block. In all cases, this is done inside an encrypted tunnel and no user data is accessible to those cloud providers. We can confirm that all the user data Proton and SimpleLogin have is hosted on our own infrastructure.

    Bitwarden has been killing it lately.. giving @1password a run for its money.

    1PW only supports Fastmail

    @bitwarden supports 6 email forwarding service providers:

    @simplelogin
    DuckDuckGo
    @fastmail
    AnonAddy
    Forward Email
    Firefox Relay

    Bitwarden’s integration also appears more polish. One still cannot create a masked email address from the iOS 1password app.

    😎 Hide the real subject lines in all emails received to your aliases.

    The feature is available on the web app: Mailboxes >> Hide email subject.

    The real subjects are still visible in the email body.

    @dieTasse @el_haych2024 Yes, we advise using this along with PGP encryption, or if you're using Proton Mail (which also relies on PGP to encrypt emails end-to-end). Namely, PGP encryption doesn't cover the subject lines at this time.

    Just like social security numbers, passport information, and other information that can be used to identify you, your email is PII - personally identifiable information.

    Yet many services pretend like it isn’t.

    The best way to protect your identity online is to use a alias whenever you’re asked to share your email address.

    @protonmail kills SimpleLogin!

    Hi!

    First, they removed account delete option.

    Here is a link to saved page as PDF:

    <https://we.tl/t-W5L6ADbmql>

    Second, they removed free breach checks:

    Link to GitHub

    Third, they removed free send feature:

    Link to GitHub

    But (!) allowed sending in trial period so this will not stop abuse because abuser will simply create new account.

    @Telo Note that this is not correct, as explained to you elsewhere (e.g. https://discuss.privacyguides.net/t/new-changes-to-simplelogin-free-plan-that-upset-me/17361/17 or here: https://github.com/simple-login/app/discussions/2069)

    The first one is still possible, it was just moved to the different section in the settings, "Account Settings".

    @Telo

    The second is an unofficial feature that we haven’t advertised, as it was still in development. It uses the HIBP (HaveIBeenPwned) API that recently increased their price. And as the number of aliases in SL have significantly increased, we have to upgrade to the more expensive options in HIBP and financially can’t just make this available for free. The feature is still under development, to ensure stability and scalability, we’ll make an announcement for it when it’s done. (2/3)

    simplelogin,
    @simplelogin@fosstodon.org avatar

    @Telo The final one has been announced back in April 2022, and only implemented earlier this year, meaning that users have had enough time to make their decisions when it comes to using our services. It only affects recently created accounts, accounts that existed before the enforcement date aren’t affected and can still create new reverse aliases. (3/3)

    @simplelogin hi, me again with questions about the Safari extension. Why is your extension not available in the UK App Store? and can I just download it from what ever source so I can finally use SimpleLogin in Safari without the very crappy port of the iPad app to macOS, please.

    simplelogin,
    @simplelogin@fosstodon.org avatar

    @0x2c4 Could you manually search for “SimpleLogin” in the App Store, rather than using this link?

    I just read this in a review of a service:

    "Sign-up doesn't require an e-mail or other personally identifiable information."

    But it seems to me that when using email aliases (like @simplelogin), email no longer counts as 'personally identifiable information'... 🎉

    Did you know that you can:

    ➕ connect your account to multiple inboxes, and

    ↪️choose which one of them is used each time you create a new alias?

    How many inboxes can you connect to a SimpleLogin account?

    If you need help adding new inboxes to SimpleLogin, learn how to do it here: https://simplelogin.io/docs/mailbox/add-mailbox/

    @simplelogin hi there, why is the Safari extension not avaliable any more on AppStore for macOS?

    For a while I really wanted a service like Apple's Hide-My-Email but I didn't like how it was hidden away in iCloud settings. Felt hard to access.

    I also knew @protonmail had one associated with their password manager.

    But, TIL (and I vaguely remember knowing this already, but had forgotten), Proton owns SimpleLogin. Which has an app, extension, website, etc. which is EXACTLY what I've wanted all along. I wish proton would advertise it more.

    This came about because my email got leaked 😔

    @johnpeden @protonmail Hi! We're actually planning to provide phone number masking in the future.
