This older comic is going around. Animals with misleading names! A gentle attempt to poke fun at English common names.

Heading south this week. Lovely views en route, firstly at Tomatin and secondly Loch Inch south of Aviemore.

Christ that was ANNOYING. Was switching hotels with my backpack on my back, and as the second hotel was just next to a Metro station I decided to take public transport.

The Metro station is attached to a main railway station, so there are loads of exits which are very confusing – so naturally I managed to step outside at exactly the wrong point, and have to go all the way around a freeway overpass via a stinky bus station to get to my hotel.

I was NOT HAPPY. Congrats to the Mercure staff for dealing with my mood when I arrived.

@timrichards argh! How frustrating. Never good when signage isn’t what it should be.

"In essence, Dommett accuses the SNP of sabotaging Yes Scotland during the independence campaign. If independence is ever to be won, it needs taken out of the SNP’s hands"

This piece is savage, but it's also true; and the SNP would do well to take note and ponder.

simonvarwell,

@simon_brooke a pretty excoriating interview, even if just one man’s view. The signs were there back then that the SNP couldn’t differentiate cause and party. For me the main example of this was their inability to challenge the likes of Labour about what they’d do with the powers of independence and to entertain the scenario that they (SNP) probably wouldn’t be in charge of an independent Scotland.

I knew Cluster from their 1977 collaboration with Brian Eno, but I didn't know this album. The first track sounds like early Boards of Canada. The changes are uncanny. And yet this is 1974! Just take a listen: https://youtu.be/1Pzy7qmonM0

Hot date tonight (with my wife, I should clarify). We got a wee bite to eat from the Redshank fish stall at the Victorian Market (an excellent street food space not long opened), then went to see the wonderful cyclist, presenter and author (and local Sneckie) Jenny Graham present about her record-breaking round the world cycle. She was a fabulously entertaining, funny and inspiring speaker, and her new book about the adventure looks good!

A woman with a microphone speaking next to a screen on which is projected a sketched drawing of her on a bike.

I've just started reading The Man Who Loved Only Numbers (a biography of Paul Erdos) by Paul Hoffman. A most joyous start and I think I'm going to it greatly.
Of particular note is the way the chapters are numbered. I mean...

Lastatempe mi rekomencis legi La Granda Kaldrono de John Francis. Ĝi ne estas facila legaĵo sed iom post iom mi progresas. La juĝfarado de John MacLean enhavas potencajn vortojn, ankoraŭ aktualajn.
