I've seen mentions of the show Dark Matter but I didn't realize it was an adaptation of the Blake Crouch novel (which I read). Neat.

I filled up a bobbin for the first time! This one is some BFL I am pretty sure I bought when I still lived in TX. (So, old) woo! #handspinning #spinning

scarfwitch,

Yay pretty. And it goes so well with the multicolored yarn I spun previously.

You can really tell my wheel chain plying needs hella work, though. #handspinning #spinning

"Time does not exist, only entropy" I mutter to myself as I prepare for another Monday with a disrupted circadian rhythm

I am your obnoxious coworker that says things like "hobbies don't have gender."

(But seriously when I hear folks saying it feels emasculating to admit they don't like football...I can't not push back against that idea in an affirming way. Your gender isn't at defined by what kinds of leisure activity you enjoy!)

On a non-crafting note, I recently played Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (Switch remake) and it was a really satisfying play. I liked the mix of storytelling and puzzle solving. (I described it to someone as "it's like a mashup of murder mystery and Mousetrap") recommend!

I also hadn't seen that kind of gameplay before which is always a treat to play or watch.

Two things are true:

I really love #weaving.

I really hate warping the loom.

Particularly with linen yarn. WHY STICK TO SELF SO MUCH.

Ow, my back.

Finally sat down and watched the Gilded Age s2 finale. What a satisfying closer to the season and I didn't cry once 😂

I do love this show. It has really hit its stride in s2.

Today called for comfort food.

Karaage, daikon (not pictured) and onigiri with kitty faces.

Part of my well I guess I'm not eating at restaurants anymore (thanks Covid) was a splurge on some really nice tableware from Japan.

Have been washing my knits lately and last night I blocked this one - had forgotten just how pretty the pattern is. 😍 (pattern: Echo Flower by Jenny Johnson Johnen; yarn is Tosh Merino Light) #knitting

Today's #Tarot (#Oracle actually) vibe of the day.

The Knitter's Oracle
The Stockinette

luck, carefree, humor, lightheartedness

It's interesting, I grabbed this deck for the novelty & I don't normally like oracle decks. They just never vibe with me. I'd hoped this would be different, but I think not? Idk.

None of those words are what I feel like I am. Maybe they are meant to be aspirational. I have thought a lot about how life has made me very serious.

#Divination #Witch #Pagan

scarfwitch,

@MsHearthWitch maybe it can just be a prompt for a conversation with yourself? Like a writing prompt but for introspection.

scarfwitch,

@MsHearthWitch I have had this exact conversation with myself. I felt like it was coming back finally and then some major shit happened and then the pandemic hit and I feel like it set me back some again.

#DailyTarot card is Two of Swords which implies a decision to be made. It is very correct. I have a decision in front of me. The card says nothing about what direction to choose. Only the heart and the mind together can make that decision happen. This is a reminder to trust myself as I think through which way to go. #tarot (1/?) #YarnTarot

scarfwitch,

@consumablejoy it seems kind of weird to me to judge someone harshly because they don't use a tool or do a hobby the same way you would.

scarfwitch,

@MsHearthWitch @consumablejoy which is entirely logical, to take creative approaches to solving problems. Hell, there are entire therapeutic disciplines built around this idea. The brain is a creative instrument, not just a calculator.

scarfwitch,

@consumablejoy @MsHearthWitch is he one of those people that describes himself as a Vulcan

How do you reward yourself as positive reinforcement for building a difficult habit when you don't believe in guilty pleasures?

Every example I can think of that people typically use as "treats" work because they won't "let" themselves have it except as a reward, or they feel guilty. That just flat out doesn't work for me.

(This is doubly hard because to build the habit I also need to remember to DO the habit in the first place...that's a separate struggle)

US folks, a healthcare benefits PSA.

Do you have the option of an FSA or HSA? know the difference!

Both let you set aside money pre-tax for healthcare expenses. Both have a maximum amount you can contribute each year.

HSA (Health Savings Account) is available with qualified medical benefits plans - usually the high deductible kind. You can use this to pay for medical expenses, including those towards your deductible. Unused money rolls over from year to year.

I get that not everyone thinks about these things, but it really frustrates me when someone is posting recipes on a semi-professional basis (eg you're a "food influencer" or whatever) and they're leaving out pretty important details.

There's a recipe that I really want to try and the person posted the ingredient list with “1 jar of butter beans" at the top.

Ok, the most obvious thing (to me anyway) - there are different sized jars in the world! what size jar? (continued)

scarfwitch,

Much better would have been something like “1 700g jar of Bold Bean Co Queen Butter Beans, or 2 400g tins of butter beans”

Then, at least it's more accessible to a wider variety of people. And Americans can do some conversion and figure out that's just 2 standard cans of beans. (if you want to use dried beans…you kind of have to guesstimate from there)

As it is, I had to read through a TON of comments to figure out even that much. Poor form.

scarfwitch,

@MsHearthWitch I literally had to do the following:

-look up "queen butter beans" to find the brand, scroll through their website to find the jar size (there were multiple)

-then scroll through the comments further to find a comment that said "if you are doing tinned beans use 2”

-then look up what size a standard british tin is

-then convert to oz to figure out how it lines up to US standard can size (pretty well, thankfully)

SIGH

scarfwitch,

@MsHearthWitch I mean, I guess I was lucky there wasn't more than one brand that sold specifically QUEEN butter beans? that would have been even worse.

scarfwitch,

@MsHearthWitch right. it was really just this person's preference. which ok, sure, but also
(1) still be specific cause there's more than one size ffs
(2) people need to know size regardless so they can make appropriate substitutions if they can't get the thing you like best!
