Recently, billionaire Elon Musk attacked one of Brazil's top judges, claimed that the Brazilian constitution was being disrespected, and that freedom of speech was being curtailed.

That is not true. What is happening is that the local representations of Twitter and Facebook, which essentially market ads, post promotions, and training to improve publication performance, have been systematically guiding the Brazilian far-right to make use of their resources. These offices shared very specific data with this political group, enabling the use of social media to exploit hate primarily through disinformation tactics (the famous fake news).

As with the case of Cambridge Analytica, Brazilian elections were hijacked. In 2018, the far-right assumed the presidency of the country for the first time with President Jair Bolsonaro, and one of his sons was put in charge of an unofficial government agency known as the Cabinet of Hate, which used public resources to conduct a permanent campaign of disinformation and incitement against democratic institutions, especially against the Brazilian equivalent of the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Bolsonaro government was disastrous for the country since its sole objective and only government plan was to maintain the Bolsonaro family in power and nothing else. As a result, realizing he would not be re-elected, Bolsonaro attempted a coup in 2022 but (even in that) failed. Among his supporters are people who advocate for the return of the military regime (a dictatorship that lasted from 1964 to 1985).

The Brazilian far-right has an aversion to democratic principles, much like billionaire Elon Musk, who supported Jair Bolsonaro and supports the various far-right initiatives in Latin America.

Minister Alexandre de Morais of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), the Brazilian equivalent of the U.S. Supreme Court, is responsible for two critical cases related to Brazilian democracy that are intertwined: the formation of digital militias (such as the Cabinet of Hate), and disinformation campaigns (Fake News), which undermine the exercise of democracy in the country.

Moraes's actions are not carried out in a dictatorial manner, as Musk claims; all his decisions need to be voted on and authorized by a majority of STF ministers, and all of them aim to protect democracy, not dismantle or demoralize it, as has been the agenda of the far-right.

Musk has previously stated that if Bolivia refuses to sell him lithium (the country has the largest lithium reserves in the world), he will orchestrate a coup there. The billionaire has demonstrated several times that he has little regard for democracy and has turned Twitter into a hotbed of extremism. The freedom of speech he sees being curtailed in Brazil pertains to only one political spectrum: the far-right.

The Superior Court of Justice issued a court order to block the profiles of politicians under investigation for crimes in the Fake News and Digital Militias inquiries, and Musk refuses to comply, claiming these people have the right to freedom of speech.

However, the investigations indicate that these people have used freedom of speech to commit crimes, including a disinformation campaign aimed at the total deregulation of Big Tech activities in the country, freeing them from any legal liability and allowing them to act freely in manipulating elections or markets.

The climax of this story occurred this month when a six-year investigation identified those responsible for the 2018 assassination of councilwoman Marielle Franco: federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão, his brother Domingos (who was a deputy until 2016), and police officer Rivaldo Barbosa. The trio not only ordered the assassination but also obstructed investigations through the public offices they held.

Since the Brazão brothers were parliamentarians, the court responsible for the case is the STF, and Morais issued arrest warrants for the trio. Chiquinho Brazão is still a deputy with parliamentary immunity. The arrest warrant stood nonetheless, angering a group of federal deputies... which ones? The far-right! The deputies rushed to Twitter to "denounce" Moraes's abuse of power and "violations of the Brazilian Federal Constitution," immediately gaining Musk's support.

Plot twist: o café fechou permanentemente mesmo!!!

As pessoas fazem coisas boas, as pessoas fazem coisas más... A gente se ajuda, a gente se prejudica.

Hoje na cota das coisas más:

Alguém marcou como permanentemente fechado no Google Maps, um café que eu vou de vez em quando no Paraíso, Duckbill da rua Cubatão. Não é nem o meu café preferido da região, que é o Fora da Lei, mas tem tomadas nas mesas, então para usar o computador é melhor.

Fui dar uma busca para mandar o endereço para uma pessoa e não tava achando, quando consegui achar, vi que estava marcado como fechado permanentemente... ai ai.

Talvez eu devesse acrescentar no #OpenStreetMaps para rebalancear a coluna das coisas boas? https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/6453421750

PS: Tentei avisar o pessoal do café, que só usa as redes sociais zoadas do Zuck...
