Thing I like best about mastodon is reading what real folks think in the UK.
Today I learned bout throwing milkshakes at fascists and a new word gobshite 🤣🤣
I love the UK 🇬🇧 ❤️❤️
We need sum shakes for trump 🤣 #milkshake#nigelfarage

Check side effects of any meds you take. Wife had shoulder, neck and top of back pain for 7 years before she found out it was a side effect of her glaucoma eye drops!
I guess it’s been 20 years since that Ethernet cable was left dangling from the broadband router. It’s now sort of neatly pinned around door frames and skirting, and no longer a trip hazard.*
(* It was in an area of little traffic, but still.)
@snaptophobic
Been there, done that. But last time we moved house, 2016, I ran Cat5 around the house and even out to the shed before we got the whole place decorated. Mind you under the desk is still a nightmare of cables. Everyone should have Ethernet in their shed!
Folks who might be looking to move from Windows to Linux: another option, if it’s financially feasible for you and you don’t want to mess with installing Linux, is to sell your Windows machine and buy a Linux one.
Britain's defense minister challenges the international court: Arrest warrant requests against Netanyahu and Gallant will not affect our continued arms exports to Israel.
Isn't they just lovely people? They are for law and order
@faab64
I am really sick of being embarrassed by our government. These bastards have to go. Soon. And not be allowed anywhere near power ever again. @palestine@GeriatricGardener
@snaptophobic
Hmm. To the community centre to help the 'old folk', some younger than me, with their Galaxy Tabs and internet woes. This afternoon, weather permitting, I shall be trying to disguise many, many scrapes on our old car. I have the paint, the lacquer but fear I may lack the skill and patience.🤞
@snaptophobic
Oh I do love resigning. Funniest one was from a C of E high school. The head sought me out to discuss it because resignations were so rare. It was VERY religious as were most teachers there so they loved it. I didn't. Next time I left teaching all together and again the head couldn't believe it. He'd twice turned down promoting me and I felt took me for granted as a permanent fixture. So I got a job with less stress and better pay.👋
Each passing year I'm ever more glad to rely on Linux not Windows or macOS for my desktop experience. I wish I had a practical FOSS solution for mobile as well. #foss#windows#linuxpcgamesn.com/windows-11/ai-app…
@hankg
I used LineageOS on my last phone and it was fine. Not totally FOSS but nearly, and certainly Google-free. Unfortunately it's only available for a limited range of phones, not including this cheap Oppo.
@fkamiah17
I hope once the enquiry is done the findings go to the DPP to decide who gets prosecuted for what. Perjury of course, but maybe fraud or false accounting? I want to see the top Fujitsu and Post Office execs in jail. @RussCheshire
This thing disappearing in a cloud of its own nonsense is the Bessler Travel Air 2000 - a revolutionary design that introduced the bold new future of [checks notes] not fitting steam engines to airplanes ever again.
Having successfully proved that oil-fired steam turbines made no more sense in aircraft than contemporary submarines, the idea quietly disappeared. Almost literally so, in fact - its biggest virtue was that it was relatively silent...
@snaptophobic Well obviously they were on the wrong track. Should have had a triple expansion compound engine with a coal fired Lancashire boiler. Maybe with a coal tender supported by a blimp towed behind.
The Tories wants to criminalise carers who have the temerity of working in Tescos on the weekend and infringe their weekly earnings cliff edge by somewhere between 50p and £3.
These are people working very low paid jobs to keep the wolf from the door and have a chance to talk to other humans outside of their caring responsibilities.
Why is limit so low and always assumption of deceit?
@JugglingWithEggs Friend of mine is seriously (terminally) ill. His wife works max permitted hours on minimum wage in a care home, then comes home to work as her husband's carer. Around Christmas the care home was desperately short of staff and she was asked to stay on one evening for a couple of extra hours. Result, no carer's allowance that week. This policy is devastating to desperate people doing their best to hold things together.
@snaptophobic This might make a long thread... 1999 we bought an old cottage in Llangollen. Before we moved I called BT to request 2 lines, one for phone one for dial up intent modem. Was told to call again on day of move and an engineer would come out and do it. So I called...
@snaptophobic The engineer arrived as promised, looked around and pointed out there were no BT cables to the house. It had been empty, nearly derelict for years. So they'd have to send a line engineer round to install a new line. So a week later...
@snaptophobic An engineer showed up with a junction box and cable and asked where the nearest telephone pole was. It was across the lane, down a steep hill, through some derelict land that had become a mini forest. Too far for him to string a cable which would droop so low it would obstruct the lane. So he'd have to get a team out to install a new pole...
@snaptophobic Fortunately we also owned the overgrown wood so they could put the pole in there without bothering another land owner. So another week on they turned up with a pole on a low loader that had a giant auger on the back to drill a hole, and a crane to drop the pole in. But it was far too big for our narrow lane. So they'd have to find a team who could do it the old fashioned way with picks and shovels and raise the pole with ropes. But it would take a while to find them...
@snaptophobic Now, one little bit of the derelict land had been made flattish, by me, and was where we parked our car. Several weeks later I came home to find some guys digging a hole for a pole right in the middle of it. Between clearly visible tyre tracks. I told them they'd have to fill it in and put the pole elsewhere, which they eventually did...
@snaptophobic And a week later the engineer came back with his cable and junction box and discovered the pole down the hill only had one spare connection and we'd ordered two lines (we needed the modem not to interfere with the phone when WFH). So he made one connection and said another team would have to run cable from the exchange about half a mile away...
@snaptophobic Which eventually they did, and the lineman came back again and installed the second line. All this took about 6 months. The good news was they gave me a BT Celnet mobile to use foc until they had the landline working. And for every day they were late, starting from the first attemp on moving day, we got one month's free line rental, on both lines!
One day I'll tell you about the gas, the road repairs, the postcode...
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious There are many varieties of Tory. The obviously mad, Anderson, Gullis, Braverman, Truss, Francois. The patrician we know best, Cameron, Osborne, May, Johnson. The polite, apparently reasonable but deeply dishonest best exemplified by Gove. And Mogg who is all three.
