    I can’t be the only one who noticed that the San Francisco Symphony is only performing one actual symphony this season, and that’s being done by the youth symphony. Everything else is either incidental or chamber music. Perhaps they should change their name?

    Do you use subtitles? I'm using them more and more when they are available? It helps me to keep track of what's going on, and I like that I can turn the sound down when if it gets overwhelming.

    this mess reminds me of when the dead bird was taken over. we're moving! everyone said. to mastodon! then they got here and 80% said, gee, this shit is hard and i can't see everyone i used to and where are quote tweets, and they went back. it's easy for foss/fedi denizens to think ours is the obvious answer for everyone, but it really isn't.

    me vs bookwyrm: my instance was unstable, it's probably just one person, so i packed up and cloned myself on another instance. they all seem to be a single demographic group reading sci-fi. i realized that the thing i like about my instance is that i actually discover things on the 'discover' tab. so i moved back. it's down again, but i'm pretty sure it's where i belong

    elvis's 'it's now or never' came on as +1 and i had tea at lovejoy's, and i mentioned that i thought it was based on opera. i cannot sing (panicked bystanders would call paramedics) but talk-sang 'o sole mio' over the beginning, 'enry 'iggins style, and then she heard it. i just hope i'm not wrong

    yesterday @sustainrelease mentioned césaria évora's 'club sodade' album. i hadn't listened in a while so i gave it a spin, and immediately remembered i'd seen her live soon after sodade came out. it's a long time ago and i don't remember details, but the image of a barefoot singer spinning around on a carpet, lit cigarette in hand, is one that stays with you

    I think I know enough tech folks on here to get some kind of answer to this: I am on the board of a non-profit theater co. and we want to possibly change our website hosting from its current platform to something like Wordpress. People have done preliminary research on WP and Kualo, but is there anything else they should be considering? It needs to be easy enough to use that we don't need an IT expert to change dates/post pictures, etc. Easy to use, good security, not too $$$.

    @westerling @mxtthxw i regularly slag off wordpress and its leadership, but honestly, it's a good fit for a non-techie shop, if you like what you see in your research. one can't overestimate the value of being on something that everyone uses — because whatever snag you hit, the answer is out there
