And we are back online. There was a problem with the hardware we couldn't fix on our own so we had to wait for a technician to fix it for us. Now there will be some lagging because of full queues for a while.

@ordnung Habt ihr eigentlich einen Catch-All für E-Mails an chaos.social eingerichtet? Also angenommen jemand hätte etwas verloren, hätte diesen Gegenstand mit seinem Mastodon-Handle versehen und der Finder würde diesen als Mailadresse misinterpretieren, könnte eine E-Mail an diese Adresse über Ecken ihr Ziel erreichen?

We just made a minor change to our rules:

The sentence “Provide credit for creative works that are not your own.” was moved from the “Best Practices” section up to the proper rules.

We also expanded it to clarify our stance on AI generated content: “That includes marking AI generated content clearly as such.”

@dngrs We'd prefer a link over embedded attribution, for multiple reasons: First, it's more accessible – people with screen readers would have NO way (or no easy way) of accessing the embedded information, and everybody else would still have to type out the name/url. Secondly, a direct link makes it easy for everybody to follow up – both to engage, and to verify the attribution is correct.

A tweet is a good example: a visible username doesn't help much in finding/verifying the og tweet etc.

@cosmic040 Ich fürchte, mit mehr Husten wirds auch nicht besser – wir betreiben die Software nur. Dass ich vermute, dass Karten für einen Link nur einmal generiert und dann unendlich lange gecached werden, hatte ich ja schon gesagt, deshalb überrascht mich nicht, dass ein neuer Versuch nichts ändert. Warum jetzt ausgerechnet dieser Clip kaputt ist, wenn andere funktioneren: vielleicht kann dir der Issue-Tracker oder das Forum helfen.

Mir fiel auf, dass geteilte Links oft als blanker Text-Link ohne Preview oder als nichtssagender Preview dargestellt werden…

… obwohl die verlinkte Seite alle Metadaten bereithält! (og:image og:title og:description)

Mal naiv gefragt:

  1. Ist das ein ungelöstes Mastodon-Problem oder Instanz-spezifisch?
    2.) Gibt es Hoffnung auf funktionierende Previews?

@cosmic040 @daniel_bohrer Ist jedenfalls nicht Instanz-spezifisch, wir betreiben eine ganz unveränderte Instanz. Daniel hat Recht, es braucht auf jeden Fall immer ein bisschen, bis die Link-Preview da ist (das könnte Mastodon auch optimieren, aber wenn man sich die Anzahl der offenen Issues ansieht …).

Bei deinem Twitch-Beispiel weiß ich nicht, warum Mastodon nicht das korrekte Bild (preview mit Play-Pfeil) anzeigt, aber ich habe einen Verdacht:

@cosmic040 @daniel_bohrer Bei anderen Twitch-Clips funktioniert das bei mir nämlich. Hast du den Post sehr direkt nach Clip-Erstellung geschrieben? Vielleicht hatte nämlich Twitch da das Preview-Bild noch nicht fertig generiert (das müssen die ja auch erst mal bauen). Unser Server versucht das dann zu ziehen, kriegt ein 404, und baut stattdessen die Fallback-Karte. Ab da wird diese Preview instanzweit gecached, und ist dann leider so …

Gilt Sport jetzt auch als politisch brenzlich? Ich berichte von der derzeitigen Segelregatta über den Atlantic und bekomme von @ordnung eine Abmahnung, da ich keine CWs benutze.

Ich würde mich gerne an eure Regeln halten, als begründung nennt ihr aber: “When posting about politics, especially daily news or negative or controversial topics, on our local timeline: please use CWs“.

@eBerdnA Die Listen werden nur aus deinem aktiven Feed gefüllt, das kannst du dir wie Filter vorstellen. Bei Inaktivität fängt Mastodon irgendwann an, die Feeds nicht mehr zu befüllen, IIRC. Wenn du wieder aktiv bist, kommen wieder Posts, und ab dann siehst du auch wieder Dinge in Listen. (Alle Angaben ohne Gewähr, nur Erinnerungen an vergangene Diskussionen um den Mastodon-Sourcecode.)

@tobiasgies Scraping ist laut unseren Terms of Service verboten. Was genau deine Profileinstellungen sind können wir nicht sehen, daher können wir zum technischen Teil nicht viel sagen. Am Ende kommt es aber wohl schlicht drauf an wie viel Aufwand sich jemand macht solange du sie öffentlich postest.

@cato nein, das ist nicht geplant. Ab und an packen wir mal welche Rein aber auf Anfrage wollen wir das einfach nicht machen. Weil das a) viel Arbeit ist b) dann ständig jemand kommt und es schnell sehr unübersichtlich wird und c) wir uns dann auch noch um alle Lizenzen kümmern müssen.
