I have been reminded again that not everyone knows about the difference between old tantalum capacitors and modern tantalum polymer capacitors.
the whole "tantalum capacitors catch fire" thing occurs due to oxygen production at internal fissure boundaries in the dielectric during breakdown when exposed to overvoltage. heat + oxygen = fire.
tantalum polymer dielectrics absorb oxygen at fissure boundaries instead of producing it, self-healing them against this effect. no fire.
@gsuberland interesting. We had a catastrophic failure at a customer caused by a tantalum shorting and blowing up. Looking at the datasheet (it's a Vishay Tantamount series cap), nowhere does it mention "polymer", even though Vishay is a pretty big manufacturer... I guess we should look around for safer alternatives
@gsuberland the caps were new, but I think I misunderstood, thinking that tant-poly would not fail short. I just remember those tantalum caps we are using failing pretty violently if they do fail, but then again, no idea if all I've seen so far were actually tant-poly and the older ones would be even more violent?

Today, my lawn tractor seat arrived and I mounted it to my kart. It's really nicely cushioned and dampened and despite being way too large, you can drive comfortably. You just shouldn't go fast, otherwise you'll fall over.
I'll keep the seats swappable, so I can use this seat for e.g. camping events, to drive slowly across uneven fields, and use the classic seat for going fast :D
And a classic Weird Cato Design™ for mounting turn indicator and headlight switches to the frame of the kart so they are easily reachable from the steering wheel!
...and yeah, how would I put the switch in there? I'll just snap off the wall on the side where it's not needed. (it's designed so it can be used on either side of the steering wheel)
