Day 3 of dev: monsters now move once you see them (once their fog of war disappears), and they can attack you. And of course, they can ki--WHAAT?!??

Day 2 of prototyping, let's see if it sticks. Added a simple fog of war (visible or not), the ability to range attack (click on a monster), and an out-of-range error. And a crapton of refactoring...

Beginnings of a quick-and-dirty #roguelike dungeon crawler prototype. You can move around (not into walls), attack enemies, kill and die (get game over). And see stats. It's all a messy WIP.

Back to this prototype. It's ugly as sin, but at least it's (kinda?) easy to tweak. And has a lot of features already built-in.

Interesting article on when and how to make your own game engine: https://gamedeveloper.com/programming/why-and-how-you-should-leave-unity-and-unreal-to-make-your-own-engine

#Prototype continues at a clipped pace. Killing monsters now gives you coins. You can see the day number (increases each death) and coins (total) each round, according with a summary of coins gained when you died.

#GodotEngine #GameDev #Roguelike #Roguelite

A shop screen, followed by day: 7 and coins: 11. The player hits Start Day. The character walks around the dungeon, kills some monsters, and dies. A summary screen shows: one coin gained. Then the shop screen shows: day 8, coins 12.

@JanOrszulik Getting some solid X-COM vibes from this (the original DOS one), looks amazing!

In one week, fifty of us will start making games for blind gamers. (Some of us already started planning out our games in varying level of details.)

Wanna join us? It's a chilled month-long jam.

Read more and join here: https://itch.io/jam/games-for-blind-gamers-3

Reminder that making games for blind gamers is really awesome and rewarding ❤️

I highly recommend it. A lot of devs fail to make anything (that's why it's a jam!) but everyone learns a lot. Including blind players.

So, if you're free next month ... ?

I am very pleased to announce the first ever BARE (Blind-Accessible Research and Exploration) jam! https://itch.io/jam/bare-1

It's a one week, chilled jam to learn and the challenges blind players face, and explore what kinds of game engines, features, and tools we can use to make games accessible to them.

Join if you have the time, you will definitely learn a lot!

What could be worse than rewriting old code that was written by another person, who called variables not only with lexical errors, but also using words unrelated to the code context... 👽🛸

nightblade9,

@maxim the only thing worse is when you check the history and see that it was you that made the change months/years ago 🤣

That sinking feeling when a hobby becomes "work".

I love modding, but I hate updating my mods, and all the fluff that comes with it; authoring the update, writing release notes, taking new screeshots, and then updating it 😫

This is compounded by the fact that I insist on placing relevant information (description, tutorial, release notes) on both github and steam. I would hire this job out if I could ha

nightblade9,

@SirLich That's interesting; I've made several relatively simple mods, and so, have never run into this. I can see how that can be painful. (Perhaps modding older, stable/finished games might also help?)

So my tool that I'm making is being made with Game Maker. Game Maker doesn't have built in Text To Speech capabilities, so I hired someone to make a DLL for GameMaker so GMS2 games can now work with NVDA, SAPI, JAWS, and a few others I never heard of! If you use GameMaker, check it out since it's licensed under LPGL! Also tell the developer they did good because they did!

nightblade9,

@Ericbomb thank you so much for making this open-source!

My text-game, Hybrid, is now available on Itch, as part of the jam.

It's definitely a /, kinda MUDish, and honestly kind of fun! But difficult (especially without healing skills) and short. Hopefully someone out there likes it, I spent hours balancing and another hour writing an epic story 😅

Play it here: https://deengames.itch.io/hybrid
