Can anyone speak to whether Dropbox Paper is still in active development? Or is it on the way to being sunset?

@alexjsp @Daojoan absolutely is. They haven't added features or spoken about it in a very, very long time. Quite surprising actually that they haven't looked to this new AI content era as an excuse to bring some focus back to Paper.

I do wonder why they didn't try harder to compete. Launching a #Dropbox email service to go with Paper and the core Dropbox product would've made it a pretty appealing prospect for people wanting out of #Google and #Microsoft.

Is there a premium #android phone that doesn't come with bloatware?

@ayo not really, but it's now very easy to get Samsung phones to a point where their bloatware is never in your face. I spent an hour deleting and disabling unwanted stuff when I got my S23 Ultra months ago, all without any trickery, and it's never been an issue since.

Anybody know if there's a way to make #MacOS display file thumbnails larger in the file-open window (i.e. the window that pops up when opening files from within an app, or uploading files to a social platform, etc). These are infuriatingly tiny!

@kev Ah okay, I think we're not on the same page. I'm talking specifically about the window that pops up when you're opening a file from within an app. Making changes in Finder doesn't seem to affect this.

would kinda love to see Google subsidise the development/porting to Android of more currently iOS-exclusive creator-focused apps like the Affinity suite, Procreate, etc.

Man, Google funding Affinity's move to Android would really give Adobe a bump, too.

The Tab S9 Ultra is an epic, epic tablet desperately waiting for some more capable/popular creative apps.

Coming to realise that while #Mastodon as a platform requires more perseverance & patience than any previous social network I've used, and finding specific people will probably always be a pain in the arse, I'm also having the most fulfilling conversations I've ever had online. Feels worth it.

And all I've really done to find interesting people is follow some hashtags, and browse the 'following' lists of people I already know & respect. Wasn't 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 hard.

It's not the usual "give me convenience or give me death" experience we so often crave in all aspects of life, sure, but nothing truly good comes easy. ☺

What app do you use to keep track of your productivity stuff? Been using Things3 (apple exclusive) for #productivity and it was nice but since I've been using multiple OS's recently it's not cutting it for me. I'm moving between #windows, #mac, #linux and #android more.

I have re-read the magnificent article by @kissane, titled "Mastodon is easy and fun except when it isn’t". On Bluesky, she asked those people who had tried/used Mastodon and bounced off, what had led them to slow down or leave.

tl;dr; reasons why they left Mastodon:

  • Got yelled at, felt bad
  • Couldn’t find people or interests, people didn’t stay
  • Too confusing, too much work, too intimidating
  • Too serious, too boring, anti-fun
  • Complicated high-stakes decisions

"I don’t know if Mastodon can grapple with the complexities of mass scale. Lots of people would prefer it didn’t—staying smaller and lower-profile makes it friendly to amateur experimentation and also a lot safer for people who need to evade various kinds of persecution. But if Mastodon and other fedi projects do take on the mass scale, their developers must consider the needs of people who aren’t already converts. That starts by asking a lot of questions and then listening closely and receptively to the answers you receive."

For many parts I agree. But despite everything, Mastodon/Fediverse is still the best place to be on social media. Let's make this even better. We have the power.

This all feels valid. I've long given up hope that anything more than a few once-was-twitter friends will take up a place here, but I've also made plenty of great connections here – just as I did when I tried Google+ and most of my friends didn't, or when I joined twitter without knowing, well, anybody there except maybe @milligna and @Shaneus. And here they are(n't much)! 😆

I'll probably never leave centralised platforms completely, because most of my friends are still on Insta (and now Threads), but at least the weirdly-lesser-evil of Insta and Threads means I don't have to go to the dead-bird site.
