What's important? Local journalism makes our communities better. We should be making voting easier, not restricting it. I love books particularly ones that help me understand our crazy world from science fiction (nice recent ones about climate change) to 1619 to detective/crime fiction (as a lens into other cultures) . I do "small p" photography taking snaps while walking of the random and the beautiful, primarily in Chicago. And occasionally experimenting "small m" metalwork.

#OnThisDay in #history - in 1343, Jeanne de Clisson took up a life of piracy to avenge her husband's execution at the hands of Philip VI. She sold her lands, hired men, and attacked the possessions of those who had murdered her husband. She procured three warships and painted them black. Her flagship was named My Revenge, and she harried French ships, killing all but one sailor on each boat to carry her message.
She became known as the Lioness of Brittany.

Looks like a traditional can at Vero Beach - but upon closer inspection it's actually half of a trash/recycling combo. Note one side curved and opposite flat.

Greetings on #FensterFreitag from the artwork formerly known as Window.

An ordinary basement window that someone, at sometime, made extraordinary by hanging what look like many multicolor ceramic samples. I love the effect.

Started "The Overstory", Richard Powers and so far I like this book a lot. The first bit is all about the great chestnut blight-- the profound impact it had on the early American East coast, a family and one particular tree that survives.

It's full of exciting imagery... and as I think about the Fermi paradox and whale falls today, I'm also thinking of the chestnut tree in that story.

Did you know a chestnut tree can't produce nuts unless there are other trees within the reach of the wind?

Went to see the new ant colony at AMNH it was amazing! I’m going back as soon as I can!
