Folks are asking what's next for me after #PyConUS.

I'm trying to figure out how to actually get paid doing things I'm good at 🤑

I'm working on finalizing how "Mariatta as a Consulting Service" would look like, so stay tuned for news.

Meanwhile one way you can support me is by sponsoring me on GitHub.

https://github.com/sponsors/Mariatta/

Thanks to the 11 people who are currently already sponsoring me.

I'm still at the sprints and would be happy to chat more in person!

Yesterday was my first time doing #sprints at #PyConUS (or anywhere), and I didn't know what to expect coming in. From the time I asked "is this the @coveragepy table?" to when I left, a table of complete strangers were so kind, funny, helpful, and patient as I explained my idea, got set up, and started hacking away while asking tons of questions all along. Thanks to @nedbat @grohe43 @marcgibbons @kevin and the rest of the sprinters for being the best example of what #OSS collaboration can be.

I've now published the transcript and slides of my #PyConUS keynote, "Untold stories from six years working on Python packaging". It's a PDF linked from:

https://harihareswara.net/posts/2024/references-pycon-us-keynote/

This includes:

the lyrics to the pip sea shanty (a filk of "The Wellerman")

annotations marking where the audience laughed

at least ten intentionally blank slides

Conference slide, also with the PyCon US 2024 template ♪♫♬ ● Soon may dependencies break ● Resolving the conflicts that you make ● This year, for stability's sake ● You'll take this pip and go [tune: Wellerman] #PyConStories

#PyConUS is very inclusive - we have an open space for a #Rust meetup this evening at 7:30 in room 310. Folks who are interested in learning more about Rust and how it works with #Python please come! (bring your own food we don’t have pizzas) 🍕 🤷🏻‍♀️

@mariatta I know it's not over yet, but thank you, the sponsors, and all the volunteers who made such an incredible experience. I've attended virtually before, but this was my first time in person and the "hallway track" was amazing - I met so many great Pythonistas. I also LOVE that the PSF has continued to have the online platform available to in-person attendees. It's great for when you need to separate yourself from the crowd, but not miss the talks you want to see.

Friends, don't let friends package alone. Come learn about how we are helping scientists make their software better by demystifying the #python packaging ecosystem . Whether you are a new or seasoned packager this talk is for u. My first pycon main track talk is today at 1030 am in hall c. I'm nervous ! I need friends to get me through 😅 #pyconus @pyOpenSci

Love Python packaging? Hate Python packaging? FEAR Python packaging?

This talk was made for you, with 💜 , by our Executive Director and Founder, @leahawasser

You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll walk away inspired and empowered to tackle anything Python packaging throws at you. We promise.

I love what @leahawasser is doing with the pyOpenSci open peer review of packages https://www.pyopensci.org/about-peer-review/ that results in a list of recommended packages https://www.pyopensci.org/python-packages.html

This seems like a way more effective and accessible solution to the "what libraries are appropriate to use" problem than, say, cargo-crev.

As you're planning your time at PyCon US, definitely make time to chat all things community, Python, open source, and open science at the pyOpenSci Open Space!

You'll be able to chat with @leahawasser (and grab some pyOpenSci swag), and connect with the broader pyOpenSci community.

We can't wait to see you there 💜
