Here's last week's effect from the Field-FX tent in @emf.
I took inspiration from @moraghickman's beautiful design, pulling out some of the motifs: wheels, then the EMF logo, some train tracks, and finally, the wind turbine.

Exciting times. I'm having a main laptop refresh. Previous one has lasted six years, which isn't too bad. I tend to buy expensive and powerful, and see the cost as spread over a number of years... so actually very good value for a main work tool.
Gone for an insane-looking two screen job - the ASUS UX8406. Seems universally extremely well received (except for speakers and webcam).
Just this moment released in the UK and happens to qualify for a 10% discount at Currys if anyone fancies similar!

👆 The main reason I've gone for a ridiculous two screen laptop is because it makes code dev a lot easier.
The secondary, but not insignificant, reason is so that I have more real estate for stickers.

I'm not too familiar with PCB doohickeys.
Is there a smart way to unclip the battery again? Lifting or squeezing something? It's a very firm connection and I'm reluctant to pull it very hard in case that's the wrong thing to do and does damage!

My wrists and ankles hurt too much for swim training that I pulled out after the warm up. Listen to your body.4 nights camping and 4 days standing takes it's toll.

SPARKLETENT (LEDs on canvas) jtruk/24

My @FieldFX demo entry video is now online.

The work features 132 spatially located LEDs, driven by 2x #Pimoroni Plasma Stick 2040W. They talk to a server, which supplies a function to set R,G,B each frame.

Is it the first demo to run on a tent? (probably not; the #demoscene folks are an inventive crowd 😄).

I had a blast DJ'ing at #emfcamp on Sunday night. Went very well considering it was my first time doing it in person instead of on the internet.

@jtruk caught this absolutely incredible slow motion footage during it, which might be my favourite EMF shot of all time. Charles, Rob, and Dimitri really nailed the effect timings. phenomenal.

How easy is the music, partying and abundant alcohol consumption to avoid while at EMF? 😆 Can people just swing by my house so I don't have to pretend to like camping, or that I'm able to hold a conversation anywhere but an anechoic chamber?

@doug @gadgetoid This hits closest for me. There's a lot of noise, broadly getting louder the further into the field you go, though the family friendly camping will also have some distraught kids.
Alcohol can be avoided. Partying too. Music events are not all dancey - the algorithmic livecoding and mechanical techno were both visually brilliant to watch.
You can make space for quieter/intimate chat.
On balance, I think you can shape it, but yes, camping and some kind of noise are unavoidable.
