@mistakenotmy it highly depends on your instance. Since it's the admin that decides if a hashtag is allowed to be shown in trends or not.

I honestly would forget that we're all on separate servers if it wasn't for Mastodon not showing the full stats of posts like boost and favs, also not backfilling timelines..

I know those things are currently on the dev team's radar, but I feel once those are fixed, Mastodon will be pretty much perfect to me.

So I set up a new #pixelfed instance but my global feed is empty. #ActivityPub integration is enabled, I can find my new account from #mastodon. Do I need to do anything else for global feed to show up?

UPD: I also added a bunch of instances in the admin interface, including the biggest ones

@mykhaylo it's the same on Mastodon as well. The difference is you're on a Mastodon instance with many other people who follow plenty of accounts on other instances. That's why you see so many people's posts on fosstodon but not on your personal pixelfed instance.

@mykhaylo relays are like pools. Instances join relays and they receive all posts from all users of all the instances that have joined that relay.
I don't think pixelfed support relays, but it can definitely help it.

Just keep in mind adding relays mean federating with many instances. And Mastodon stores all the federated content (media) locally. So you should keep an eye on your disk usage, in case you don’t have much space.

A new question on federation...

As the current state is "pushing" some content to the , it means that it should accept incoming reports for abuse from servers, even if the accounts have been selected among employees.

Does anyone know if has implemented the features to receive and acknowledge abuse reports through federation?
If that is not the case, any status on when it will be implemented before full fledged outgoing federation?

@ericfreyss there is no "push" of content in #fediverse. But only fetch. That's something that should be kept in mind. You only get the content you choose to receive.
But about your question, I don't think it's implemented yet. But can expect it to be added at some point. Only people over threads can answer that with certainty.

If I can click the share button and open the web page of a post, then why can’t my local client fetch an image directly from the originating instance? Instead of waiting for my home instance to download it then send it to me it seems? #mastodon

I've always said that the #fediverse was vulnerable to corporations in the long run.

What I hadn't bargained for was the willingness of the most informed people, particularly instance admins to be oblivious or complacent about this danger, and for so many here to literally welcome federation with malevolent corporations like #Meta / #Threads and #Medium.

#Fedi is the lifeboat but #p2p will be the shore folks.

I see a lot of negative reactions, but most if not all, don't seem to know how fediverse actually works.
Threads can't abuse #Fedi. #ActivityPub is created with privacy in mind. It does not share any information between servers. Only posts. It doesn't even federate favorites. And accessing public posts doesn't even require being part of the fediverse.

@Mehrad I think its self explanatory. I couldn't add anything to make it more clear than it is.
But, when someone report a post, they want one of 2 things. Either want that post to be taken down, or, they want that person to be suspended/blocked.
Now, I'm truly wondering if I deserve either of those 2 outcome.

The bar for good moderation is, “Do what I would do all of the time.” Several #Mastodon admins are angry with #Facebook’s moderation practices, or lack thereof, and have elected to block #Threads from federating. They’re making a censorship decision on behalf of all of their users that will restrict them from access to content made by anyone on Threads, which has 70x Mastodon’s user numbers. It’s not what I’d do, but it’s why federated services are great. Don’t like a moderation decision? Move.

I'm afraid, instances turning against each other isn't anything new. mass defederation is happening everyday for even the most irrelevant reasons. Block lists are being spread and admins import them without even knowing why any of those instances deserve to be on such lists.
Also, Threads already has far more users than Fediverse in general. They don't even need to EEE. But I agree they're doing it to look innocent and avoid lawsuits for their anti-competitive practices.
