I run https://bitfolk.com/ and do dog sitting (https://dogsitter.services/), so you should expect too many photos and videos of greyhounds with a bit of tedious computer blah as well.
I don't really know what I'm doing or if I'll stick with this, sorry. Although the status as of 2022-11-28 is Quite Enjoying It Here.

People spending a lot of effort on this fail idea because it might make them a lot of money, unlike deploying IPv6.

I've just heard a programming youtuber refer to a JWT (JSON Web Token) as "a jort".

I need a moment of quiet contemplation.

@grifferz@social.bitfolk.com avatar

Wikipedia says:

suggested pronunciation /dʒɒt/, same as the word "jot"

I've never thought of trying to pronounce JWT before.

More heartfelt pleas[1] for 32-bit x86 to remain in Debian, without an appreciation of the dire state of 32-bit x86[2].

TL;DR: If you're willing to overlook the fact that upstream Linux kernel doesn't really care about keeping 32-bit x86 secure or working, the next problem is that Debian can't build some packages any more because the package's build process wants more than 4G RAM. Would require people resources to optimise that and perhaps drop some packages; arguably limited time is better spent elsewhere.
Saying "but I want this" doesn't change these things.
Which is why every distro drops 32-bit x86.

Nerds who want to have a more advanced email setup (i.e. not just a freemail account) without being nerdy enough to run their own mail servers may like this comparison of email services.

Sometimes I'll just be going about my day and then I stop and think: if when we're coding we pronounce "char" like "kah" because it's short for "character", why don't we pronounce "enum" like "enoom" because it's short for "enumeration"?

Imagine spending countless hours proving it is possible to complete Factorio in a 12x9 world only to find out afterwards that since the Spidertron was added it is actually possible to do it in 11x9

(Spidertrons can stand on top of other buildings and have a large carrying capacity, so you can use them like chests to hold all the items you need to launch the rocket while still having the ability to place buildings on all tiles.)

Amusing execution though. 😀

Wow, I've received a phishing email to @bitfolk support address pretending to be HMRC, but it's using the correct language for the VAT service, and BitFolk VAT payment really is due in a few days (easy to look up).
The mail contains instructions about using a QR code to log in to HMRC and has an attached image of their QR code that directs to hostile site.
That's a lot more targeted than I usually see!

It's still a static hugo blog isn't it? So you'd really hope it would be fine…

Been meaning to move to Hugo myself, mainly because I need a dark theme for my own blog to make it more comfortable for me to edit and read myself. I could just change the Wordpress theme but I figure if I'm going to fiddle with it I my as well change away from Wordpress as well.

I will miss the comments though. I do genuinely get some useful comments occasionally.

I'll explore Fedi comments, but…

After 16 years of being together I was able to guess that she meant the envelope for her postal vote in the London mayoral and assembly elections. She has a dislike of licking envelopes and an inability to buy glue.

In case you're wondering why SHA512 is faster and uses less CPU than SHA256, there's probably a CPU instruction or feature helping out there.
Possibly by hunting down a better implementation optimised for exact CPU you might make some of these a few percent better.
