Upated #Introduction:

I’m a #GenX #maker of #soundscapes and #electronicmusic. I employ mostly #eurorack #modular #synthesizers as well as #samplers and #trackers. Mangling and reshaping cultural detritus from the mid/late-20th century is my current thing. That and making lots of highly experimental and abstruse #ModularTransmission recordings with absolutely no target market in mind.

Actually, the most hilarious thing about all this #Meta drama is that the following assumptions are being made:

1. That Meta will actually get its shit together to make #Project92 actually happen. I have yet to see Meta deliver on anything except for the generation of a lot of hot air.

2. That even if Project 92 becomes a reality, it will be highly adopted. Meta's target market is the user base that remains happily ensconced in Musk's Twitter or the fledgling #BlueSky. Google Buzz, anyone?

Yeah, so I made this in #KoalaSampler using audio snippets from 1971 TV commercials including a ludicrously stretched out sample of Joanne Worley laughing, a woman talking about Lipton Tea, and a car commercial.

All turned into a menacing sci-fi #horror track.

In space no one can hear you sample.

There’s something immensely satisfying about dropping a needle on a vinyl record and hearing that initial warm hum and crackle that somehow draws you in for the music that’s about to start. It’s immersive, and I’ve been missing that.

I'm currently reading Blake Gopnik's biography of Andy Warhol. Fascinating book. But it does confirm my belief that art in the 21st century really needs to be released from the grip of the gatekeepers, collectors, and academics.

The tools and means of distribution for many artforms in the digital space are now available for anyone, essentially for free.

Dear #synthdiy Mastodon: I have an NLC Squid Axon with a burnt component (I’m guessing a capacitor from the shape). I really want to get this fixed, but have never picked up a soldering iron.

Is it doable for me to fix this myself given my lack of electronics experience? What’s the minimum I would need to know?

I’d like to be able to attain a sufficient skill set to repair my modules, but not sure what the most efficient way to go about that.

Any suggestions are welcome. I’m missing my 🦑.
