TOMITA - Kosmos

https://emcritic.blogspot.com/2014/06/tomita-kosmos.html

Re-listening to that 'Music Of Cosmos' collection must have spurred on a realization that, hey, I ought to actually start checking out some of those wizards included. And what better place to begin that with a record aptly titled 'Kosmos'?

Lordy I’m getting tired of the boosterism for artificiality. Is this what it was like to witness the invention of plastic?

Huge shout out to the material artists of the fediverse, the painters and printmakers and weavers and knitters, the photographers of actual birds and moss, the gardeners and composters, the musicians and bookshop owners, the crafters and shapers of human thought, the sex workers, the repairers, all of us here being our human selves, giving our human time, slowly and with effort.

What an opus. I don't know anyone who doesn't like at least one track this album. They really realized that they made peak and moved on.

I still remember back in 1984, when talking about the same-titled Orwell novel, pundits were confidently declaring that such a surveillance state couldn't happen simply due to the sheer manpower required to monitor everyone in real-time.

LOL

UP8,
@UP8@mastodon.social avatar

@flockofnazguls there's also the overhead of actually doing something with the information

In the Soviet Union surveillance seemed to be a job program. They packed the house next to Andrei Sakharov full of spies

And yet East Germany's Stasi managed it, almost.
I recommend "Stasiland" by Anna Funder.

instance folks: There was a recent (months) discussion of electric lawn equipment. I'm needing a strimmer and possibly a mower that's compatible, though the trimmer is going to get most of the work as our lawn dwindles in the coming years.

Does anybody have suggestions or advice?

I want something cordless and strong, since I have an ongoing war with some Virginia Creeper and grape vines I want to win over several battles.

My second album, "Slips, Trips, & Falls", was released on this day in 2022. Seems a fine day to revisit (or discover) it. Available everywhere but sp*tify.
Some CDs are still available via the Bandcamp link below or follow the link in my bio for streams.

New Year new #Wikipedia list. Reebee Garofalo was one of the original people who put together Rock Against Racism Massachusetts but you may know him as the snare player for the Good Trouble Brass Band playing in the HONK! Festival of Activist Street Bands. He was cited in a ton of other Wikipedia articles and made that Genealogy of Pop/Rock Music chart you may have seen in an Edward Tufte book. A good guy to get to know, deserves a longer article but this is good for now
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reebee_Garofalo

A man in a red beret with a white beard looks into the camera. He is standingbehind a podium that has an apple laptop on it. He is wearing many strands of multicolored beads and a red HONK t-shirt

This guy's name is Bum Farto and the categories on his Wikipedia article are: 1919 births, Missing people, People declared dead in absentia, 20th-century American criminals, and Firefighters. I don't think I have anything more to add except amazement no one had written this article before.
