Lucy Westenra was angry. She burst into the mausoleum at sunrise and found us standing between her and her coffin. The fungi that animated her corpse, kept her forever young, and drove her thirst for blood demanded that she return to her native soil during the day to regenerate. All the blood she had consumed in the night needed to return to feed the soil's fungal colony. Fruiting bodies erupted from her flesh in mats of black webbing, blocking our exit.

Apple doesn't have my pictures. My phone has them or my iCloud drive has them, but they aren't in any case available to Apple who does not use AI to customize ads or search results based on the contents of my photo library. Also, Apple doesn't feed my images to AI to develop generative models.

So, it's much worse.

I feel like America has finally passed the bowel obstruction that was 9/11. It took 23 years to process and work it's way through our system. It poisoned our politics, destroyed our media, set the stage for Trump, and left the world wide open to a deadly pandemic.

It showed what horrible people Americans can be when we're grieving, fearful, and ignorant.

Bin Laden succeeded in damaging the country he hated. Putin tried to finish the job.

Exactly. We're not the same country and that's hard to explain to anyone under 40. That said, I feel like we're starting to see the pendulum swing the other way now. That may be wishful thinking.

If Trump wins a second term, imho, the wobbly legs of democracy will probably give out.

But that's worth fighting to avoid. It's a national pressure test. Or IQ test. We'll get what we deserve.

To say everyone is good at something is obviously untrue.
There are some people who are at best mediocre at something and terrible, actively bad, at everything else.
It's the best argument for UBI that I can think of.
If we just paid some people to not even try, society would be improved.
Certainly most code projects would be better off.
