Dochter is aardrijkskunde aan het leren, het gaat over globalisering.
Bij de pluspunten staat het openen van fabrieken in lageloonlanden en bij de minpunten het verspreiden van cultuur.

@peturdainn Het is een de vraag in welke mate we kunnen claimen dat winkelstraten, fabrieken, het stadslandschap in China "westers" zijn.
Of anders gezegd, wie zijn wij om mensen in China of Afrika te vertellen dat ze niet gesteld moeten zijn op materiële luxe (door massaproductie) omdat dit niet "hun cultuur" zou zijn.
Daarnaast zijn inmiddels veel multinationals niet westers, maar uit Japan, Zuid-Korea, China, India etc.

@jon And probably more reliable.
The first train in Duszniki broke down, so in Wroclaw I would miss the direct EC to Berlin.
I had a ticket Wroclaw -> Heerlen and at Klodzko station they took a huge booklet with European railway distances, counted the extra km's via Poznan and had me pay for the extra km's and the extra reservation for the EC from Poznan tot Berlin. 🤦

What apps are you using to access Mastodon? Are they free? And would you recommend them to others?

And on Windows and Linux are the apps significantly better than the Mastodon advanced web interface for you?

(I know the Mac / iOS app environment well already)

@jon In May 2017 I think there were 2 train a day from Morlaix to Roscoff. We took a bus because the train was not running on a usefull moment for our connection Montparnasse - Morlaix - Roscoff - Cork.

🤔 Do bicycles create empathy? Or do people that care about other people, tend to care about bikes?

Why is there such a big overlap between "bike infrastructure radicalized people," and "people that care about people that are different than themselves?"

Why is there such a low overlap between "people with trash hateful takes" and "people that want more bike infrastructure?"

@econproph @CurtAdams @amaditalks @mekkaokereke because bicyliststs and pedestrians don't share nicely, their infrastructure is separated in the Netherlands. However 'scootmobiels' and other small vehicles for disabled people do fit nicely with cyclists. As a cyclist, I never have any conflict with people driving a scootmobiel on the cycle path.

So it averages 36.15km/h... which it makes it about as fast as a train on a branch line in Romania

(going on a ferry to Ireland in September... eek 🤮)

@jon I travelled this route a few years ago and was really content with the ferry, also the food was nice and with a decent price (the food on DFDS IJmuiden-Newcastle was much more expensive).
The sea was quite rough indeed, but I guess I have a 'strong stomach'.

Teerhof, eilandje in de Wezer en voormalige scheepswerf waar schepen geteerd werden. Gebombardeerd in WOII en in de jaren '90 bebouwd met woningen, kantoren, een museum en universiteitsgebouw.

Relatief veel fietsers hier.
De fietsinfra lijkt hier ook wat beter dan in de rest van Duitsland.
Dat laatste is niet zo moeilijk, want in het algemeen is die totaal ruk, met schaamstrookjes op het trottoir, stoepranden, bestrating waardoor je op de fiets door elkaar rammelt, kiezelbestrating, palen midden op het fietspad en wegen waar je van de sokken wordt gereden door automobilisten.

Zelfs hier worden fietsers nog beschouwd als een soort voetgangers. Waarom die idiote rand, voetpadbestrating die spekglad is bij regen en een uiterlijk dat mensen uitnodigt om erop te gaan wandelen??
Iedere stad in Duitsland lijkt er eigen ontwerpen voor fietsinfra op na te houden en ze variëren van matig tot totaal waardeloos.
