As @davidfolkenflik has pointed out the Washington Post, the WSJ, Bloomberg News, CNN are all run by British CEOs now. We should be asking tough and loud questions about why in a country brimming with talented journalistic & business leaders our major news outlets feel compelled to hire leaders from outside the country.

Happy Easter.

Via Ron Filipkowski:

On Easter morning, posted an article in two separate publications that said he is “The Chosen One” and “a miracle” who was “sent by God” to save America.

Via Aaron Rupar:

Trump on Truth Social this Easter morning again posted a photo of Judge Merchan’s daughter and followed that up by comparing himself to Christ. https://www.threads.net/@aaron.rupar/post/C5L4NsXra1K

Latest #Con email from #Pierre:
“…Help us get more « boots on the ground » to spread our common sense message to axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget, and stop the crime….” Boots on the ground is shorthand for combat troops deployed in a foreign country. Is Pierre encouraging foreign players to come and stomp around on our soil? Is this his underlying message? #CanadianMediaFailsMiserably to care. Their reaction, meh.
My contribution is a new slogan “Spare us Pierre”.

You may disagree fervently with Pres. Biden's Israel policies, and that's fine. But if you come into my feed calling him "Genocide Joe" or any variation on that theme, you're blocked.

I've already had to block a few accounts for this.

Pres. Biden is not "for genocide." I will not argue with you on this topic, nor do I discuss the Israel/Hamas war here.

But I will not tolerate accusations of "genocide" by Pres. Biden. He's not "pro genocide."

If that's a prob, it's on you.

clpkbc,

@GottaLaff How about the long form, "By avoiding condemnation of Israeli policy in Gaza, President Biden could be seen as facilitating the current Israeli military action, which some have argued is genocidal". Would that be OK?

clpkbc,

@GottaLaff
Yes.
It was easy for me to phrase the concept neutrally. But I'm guessing that at least in some cases the offensive labeling might be more personal in origin, for example, if it came from someone who had lost civilian relatives In Gaza and was aghast at the president's moderate public position on that subject. I might even be enraged.

gemelliz, to Ottawa

3 important nuances you won't read in headlines or hysterical reactions from Conservatives.

  1. The judge said he would have supported invoking #EmergenciesAct had he been sitting at the cabinet table.
    With the information they had at the time, Cabinet did the right thing.

  2. It's only with the benefit of hindsight, which the federal cabinet did not have, that the judge determines they erred.

  3. Invoking the Act in #Ottawa & #Ontario was proper. He merely disputes invoking it nation-wide.

clpkbc,

@gemelliz Emmett Macfarlane had an informative legal take today on the decision. It looks unlikely to survive on appeal.

clpkbc,

@timnitGebru Fortunately, Google phones are niche, and even in that category are falling out of favour because they're too expensive for the bad hardware compromises you have to put up with. Proles like me are fine with generic non-AI Android phones.

"Canada will abide by all rulings arising from South Africa's genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), officials at Global Affairs Canada have told CBC News."

I also really want to see Biden in the USA pledge support to the ICJ. The GOP is blocking US humanitarian aid budgets to Ukraine, but Biden is not helping since the US will aid both Ukraine and Israel. You can't support victims of genocide while supporting perpetrators of genocide.

Looks like the CBC picked the article up from the Canadian Press and gave it the title "As extreme cold strains Alberta's electricity grid, Ottawa's green-energy plans face renewed criticism".

CTV published the same article word for word, but with the different headline "Premiers pan green-energy plans as cold weather strains Alberta's electricity grid".

The Globe carried it with the same title as CTV.

clpkbc,

@CanadianCrone @Richard_hoperestored @NMBA @CBCNews @cbcnewsedmontonbot

The article itself is actually better, including some rebuttals of statements by the AB and SK premiers, and mention of how for the first time battery storage helped to avoid blackouts.

Neither title gives any indication that the article contains intelligent positive information about renewables.

I'll pen a note to the CBC ombudsman asking about their standards for headline content. Will post any reply that arrives.

I don't know... "truckers" blockading Ottawa and demanding to "negotiate" with the government sounds like as serious an attempt at insurrection as January 6 (even if both were doomed to fail). And New Zealand just went hard right with "cost of living" as a main selling point, including a for-profit housing system even more inflated than Canada's. Not optimistic that Canadian voters will identify root causes correctly.

clpkbc,

@GottaLaff
With respect, I think that "Canada is better than the US so far" may be true for certain locations, economic circumstances, and ethnicities, but I'm genuinely happy that it's working out for you personally. All the best.

clpkbc,

@GottaLaff
Agreed, but I'm guessing his efforts are too idiotic to succeed. Contrast that with Stephen Harper's more subtle behind the scenes efforts, including cozying up to Viktor Orban. That's who the conservatives are, on both sides of the border. Harper was profoundly damaging to Canadian democracy. We're not really safe anywhere.
