It was pretty clear Spotify was iffy on its streaming-to-automobiles accessory when the company gave it the bland name of "Car Thing." It launched in Feb 2022 and was discontinued months later. Now Spotify is planning to brick existing units in December, 2024. https://buff.ly/44QP0ex

Lilbits: A 1-bit camera for the PlayDate, and Sipeed is designing a RISC-V laptop and tablet, but not a smartphone

When Sipeed launched the Lichee Pi 4A dev board with a RISC-V processor earlier this year, the company also revealed that the system-on-a-module powering the board could be used in other form factors, and that a tablet, router, and cluster board were already under development. Most popular Linux distros for the Pinephone use the same custom version of the Linux kernel, developed by megi, but that developer has shut down their GitHUb account, making it more difficult to work with. At least one is considering dropping support for the original Pinephone and PineTab. https://blog.mobian.org/posts/2023/09/30/paperweight-dilemma/

Telly's dual-screen, ad-supported TV runs an Android-based operating system and comes with a Google TV dongle that powers the actual viewing experience. I wonder how long it'll take for someone to root/jailbreak it.

The company also tries to prevent you from covering the ad screen by using it for settings, volume, inputs and other info you probably want to see.

Our recent article about the Librem 5 noted that its new $999 price tag after a $300 price cut is still... a lot. But it looks like there is a slightly cheaper option: Purism is selling refurbished models of the Linux phone for $799. https://shop.puri.sm/shop/librem-5-refurbished/

Google will charge fees to developers that distribute apps in the Play Store, while directing users in the EU outside the app for third-party payments. This is part of the company's response to the Digital Markets Acts, and it's very similar to Apple's approach. https://buff.ly/3TpMcRt
